I've got a 6600k running at 4.5GHz with 1.35V. However, it idles at 40 degrees with my Noctua NH-D15, where my ambient is around 20 degrees (room temperature). It is however quite silent, and I like it like this. Is this temperature safe / not harmful?
Do you know a program that lets you track the dialog window of a specific program directly in the RAM and generate an hex dump? I'm trying my best with Immunity Debugger but I can't figure it out yet.
I wanted to track this window by the way (see pic), because I don't read moon so I was trying to copy and paste the text in google translate.
I want to use it for other things in the future too not just this dialog window, so don't tell me to ask in >>>/int/jp because the translation is not my priority.
Hard drives, has anyone had an experience with WD elements or WD mypassport? Also I read somewhere that external HDDs are better than buying an internal HDD and enclosing that, is it true?
>external HDDs are better than buying an internal HDD and enclosing that, is it true
You'd assume so since they're made to absorb shock and what not. Also, the WD mypassport is pretty nice, as is the WD elements. I own both and they've yet to fail me after quite some time of owning them.
If i buy a new PC with VR-Ready specs, can i plug two Oculus rift in it or is it only recommended for 1 oculus?
The replacement screen that just came in for my broken phone doesn't seem to have any adhesive on the back.
Can I use the stuff that's on my current screen, after I disassemble it?
Or do I have to go get separate adhesive?
>pic related, the screen I got in the mail
I've been on an annoying little hunt for the past hour or so, just trawling through the bowels of the internet testing ukranian forum DDL links and nearly dead torrents. But I finally found what I was looking for.
I decided to do it on an ubuntu live session. What are the chances something bad could have happened anyway? Whether to local files (even if the drives weren't mounted), or could someone have "hacked my internet" as dumb as that sounds.
Question: I have heard that scanning banknotes immediately send you to a site saying "don't scan banknotes, it's illegal".
Now, assuming this is a command launched from the scanner to the computer (idk if it is like so), could be possible to copy the command and use it to execute arbitrary code (so sending a bogus "u scanned money, fool" that instead of opening a web site caused the pc to upload a folder into a receiving server)?
I'm asking this because it seems like a huge vulnerability.
that is exactly as secure as your key is.
Also, only as long as you're typing the plaintext in a safe program. Obviously you can't type unencrypted in gmail, and expect google to not know what you wrote.
I know windows updates are useless for someone who knows how use a computer/with common sense.
But what about for stuff may be dangerous?
Like remote control?
What else are windows updates useful for security wise?
Found this in a old family PC, can I reuse it in my build? or is it too old to really receive wifi well enough ?
"Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive" sounds like something that goes between the glass panel and the screen.
I'll just be connecting a digitizer+glass assembly to the body of the phone.
It's obviously fast enough if it even support n standard.
How reliable it is depends on em antennas and your router obviously, but as long as you are not gaming you can use it.
Gaming over wifi is and will always be retarded anyhow
Is 7 GB enough to install a virtual machine like kvm/emu and a Win8.1 disk image onto Debian Linux?
How do I install a software keylogger quickly and efficiently into each computer in a room full of Ubuntu or Windows 8.1 machines?
>laptop fairly cold for hours
>fan still running anyway
>fan stops until the laptop actually heats up a little, then works as necessary for a while
I guess it just goes into a state where it forgets to recheck the temperatures sometimes? It's never forgotten to START working so far, but should I be worried about this?
OK Crom* fags if you love sucking 6006l3 dicks so much show me how to enable one simple thing and that is have your home page or any other selected url show on opening a new tab instead of the useless obnoxious recently visited pages thing WITHOUT adding extensions or the home button.
yhym, here a good hacker question
>install trojan on sisters laptop
>record good amount of porn
how can i explain myself if someone finds out what im doing? "it wasnt me" will not work here
Only in your dreams.
The actual dumb way they're doing it now is to fully render 2 roughly 720p screens.
>it means it does render it all
>even the corners of the screen
>no eye tracking rendering
>it renders also the distant objects twice while it's not necessary
So, not only rendering 4 screens is not exactly fit for your PC unless, maybe, you're both watching a 3D movie with it and just getting the feed twice .. i'm pretty sure almost no game actually exist supporting this. Also i'm not quite sure you have enough ports to do it anyway.
problem is i store these video on desktop, i am the only user of this pc, but you never know what will happen. i should encrypt them, but after fapping session i have no will to do it anymore, "will do it next time" lol
Open up the settings.

Click the "set pages" link directly to the right.
Type in the page you want to use.
You could mask yourself and stalk her for a while. She probably won't suspect that it's you, and whatever else happens later, she'll suspect it's that guy.
Though I bet you already stalk her, don't you?
Would a PCI-E 3.0 x8 be enough to handle next gen's single chip flagship GPU's (Polaris/Pascal)? I'll be running CrossFire/SLI in x16/x8 config. I'm sure that the x16 lane will be enough but not the x8
Running on a 5820k/x99-dulexe currently wondering whether or not I'll need to go to a 40 lane 5930k. Cheers
Oh, you can't. Too bad for you.
But you know, if it's important to you, just use an extension. That's what they're for. Or get used to new tab and stop worry about people seeing what porn you've been visiting 20 times a day.
>Shc takes a script, which is specified on the command line and produces C source code. The generated source code is then compiled and linked to produce a stripped binary executable.
It should convert your bash files to exe.
Kinda new to building PC's but how do you quantify the difference motherboards? Or does it more just come down to features?
i have an iPad and i wouldn't replace my laptop with one under any circumstances. hit just one snag that requires access to a terminal or a conventional computer interface and you're fucked - no recourse or anything.
get an iPad mini if you desperately want a tablet. get a proper laptop for school.
Need a laptop for uni/playing a few games whilst Im travelling. Nothing hardcore, just casual shit.
Budget is around £400-£500.
Any advice? Its been a while since I did anything to do with picking a computer
>i have a mini and its gay
that's not a useful reflection. you shouldn't even be buying a tablet if your only takeaway from the tablet you do have amounts to "its gay"
>laptops 4 years old
then get a new laptop, dumbass.
Own thread 404 with no answer so ..

Misconception to say it is more secure. Recent Microsoft OS's have some good security features. In saying that I don't prefer either or, they're both just different to me with pros and cons
SANS courses are good. SEC504: if you're totally new to hacking tools then go for SEC560 then Offensive Securities PWK. Do Capture The Flags and play with pre built vulnerable systems. Check out SANS Pen Test domain for their Own Test poster for ideas of what's out there
I have 16GB of ram and a ~20GB linux installation on an SSD. What can i do to use more ram and make the system faster? Mount more stuff to ram? As of now i only have /tmp and /var/cache mounted
Look for the chart of security issues on each os and Windows is still the most insecure that's also because everyone is looking for this security issues but it does make it more insecure
How much should I worry about power consumption in a home PC?
I've taken an old HP desktop from work, and an even older IBM desktop that my dad found, and I plan on making them into small, simple homeservers.
Should I instead just buy parts and build my own?
I woke up and tried turning on my computer however whenever I turn it on I get no signal to my monitor. I have tried adjusting the graphics card and many other things. One time it gave my monitor an "updating windows but was stuck at 30% for an hour so I restarted it and then it told me it was restarting to a previous version of windows. Now I'm back to not getting a signal at all, while i hear and see all of the fans start up. It was working perfectly fine last night and didn't do anything out of the ordinary.
Was in the market for a new phone, was going to pick up a iPhone 5s, but today got offered a pristine Xperia Z3 with a 64GB card and case for less than a second hand 5s...
Should I take the guy up on this offer?
My galaxy s4 fall yesterday. The screen is now blank and the phone loop vibrate when i try to power on. When i plug the usb on my pc, it does nothing. Can i recover my data or am i fucked ?
I am currently using an USB network adapter on my desktop PC, am I going to notice performance improvements if I get a PCI card?
Idk about the prices in your country.
Let's say the average energy consumption is 250W. In Hungary 1kWh = 75HUF (0.2574USD).
So 24 hours of non-stop working costs 6.1776 USD and 30 days is 185.33 USD.
Maybe this belongs in one of the smartphone threads, but I was wondering what android apps are worthwhile without the google play store. So over f-droid, or amazon app store, or just separate, downloadable .apk files.
I'm running CM without google play so I'm pretty sure I can just sandbox apps if they require botnet tier permissions.
probably not. ideal 802.11n throughput is less than ideal usb 2.0 throughput. same goes for 802.11ac and usb 3.0. if you're using a usb 2.0 802.11ac adapter then MAYBE, but you won't notice it using the internet. you'd only notice when moving big files around on your network, like if you have a backup running or you stream high-res video or just copy/access files from another home computer.
>Soon I will receive a laptop for work. (a nice lenovo with i5 and 8 gigs of ram)
>This laptop should only be used for work and nothing else. (especially not deepwebstuff)
>It's a big, international company, so I'm 100% sure that they will spy on me in every way they can.
If the bios is not locked and I boot into tails and I never put in that usb stick while logged in windows, am I secure? Will I ever get caught?
Buy new tape, no glue.
cheap, and works great. used at Foxcon and sistsers.
You dont want to break your phone, or make it unrepairable by glue?
if you're trying to transfer things from one computer to another within the same network (e.g. 2 laptops in the apartment/house, 1 laptop and a desktop, maybe streaming something on your phone where the content is on your desktop but that's trickier to set up so not as likely), then it's possible 150mbps will yield a worse experience than 300mbps.
the issue comes down to what you're doing, honestly. if you're transferring files, speed equates to how quickly files actually get transferred over. if you're streaming HD video, it's possible you'll have to deal with buffering (but there would have to be extenuating circumstances for 150mbps to get saturated - like poor connectivity or simultaneous connections).
CM comes with its own file explorer and I knew about AdAway already, I guess I was wondering about general life improvement things. Such as google maps over amazon, if it even works without google paly (or some freedom-respecting alternative maps app), spotify/pandora (or a freedom-respecting alternative), really just any apps. There's a page on the installgentoo wiki about recommended android apps, but I'm pretty sure it's outdated, and it's pretty short.
I am building my first PC right now. My case does not have the marks to see where a micro atx board should have its standoffs positioned and I'm having trouble trying to figure it out putting it over the case, can anyone tell me? These 4 standoffs came preinstalled, I have other in a pack though.
I tried googling but people just say it's marked or on the manual but I couldn't find it anywhere.
Setting up windows laptop for girlfriend's dad. My neckbeard is long and untrimmed, as it has been many gnu/years since I last touched windows.
Which free antivirus? Is it still AVG? Needs to protect a person with no common sense.
Also, why is windows 10 having sex with the hdd in the background?
Here's what you do: carefully place the motherboard into the case but do not screw anything down yet. Observe where the standoffs should go then remove the motherboard and install them.
I put MSE on my sister's laptop, instructed her not to install stupid shit, and told her to run a Malwarebytes scan any time she thinks she might have a virus
But if I had to install an AV for someone who was seriously hellbent on running shady executables, you might need something like avast or mcafee, one of the more aggressive AVs although you might need to pay for it
I watch videos, torrent movies and sometimes play vidya, so nothing between computers on the same network really. I usually have 4 or 5 devices connected at the same time though, but I don't have them download things at the same time, so that shouldn't make the router choke, right?
AVG went to shit and avast is slow and annoying. I think avira is the only half-decent free AV now, at least that's what i installed on my computer-illiterate friend's botnetted lenovo. It's better than nothing, i guess.
Rly? its mostly flash storage with both near the same max write cycles to me.
USB sticks have a Usb controller, a SD card has a SD controller, both connected to a NAND flash most of the time.
Manufactures SHOULD post datasheets about the devices, and you should figure it out.
after all, its just flashchips with a controller (like SSD's are also just NAND flashchips most of the time, just a bit more than 1 or 2 and the controller is made with cache and higher speeds support. and error checking like raid, but for NAND chips.
What manga reading apps you guys use? On android.
For the longest time i used manga watcher.
Was wondering if theres better alternatives.
i guess the only requirement would be someplace that lets me download chapters.
I used manga phoenix a while back, I'm not sure it wasn't already taken down from the store but it was good, it used batoto as source, though I don't think it lets you download any files, or at least I never noticed any feature like that (I never thought about that really).
You may use a bash script and fire sequential ssh sessions and do that shit for you on the ubuntu boxes BUT you'll need sshd running on each machine and either a common root password or a list of root passwords of the machines.
I need a replacement stylus for my record player the one on it says yamaha cg-6600 on it, I'm having trouble finding one that's the same.
Can I use just any stylus or should I try and get the exact same one?
Do you have a graphics card? Try removing it and connecting the monitor to the onboard connector (connecting without removal will not do).
It might as well be a problem with your PSU. Some strange shit is related to PSU misbehavior.
I wish, I'm still in the middle of moving from wixoss, though I want to learn how to h4x wixoss too so if you can recommend me anything, I'd apprecciate. Is there an equivalent of the process folders of linux for windows? maybe using some memory dumper or the likes.
After multiple restarts and adjustments my computer finally decided to work properly. I have no idea what caused this malfunction as I was using it just fine last night. For now I'll let it be and I won't run into this problem again.
Guy building a PC here with another question. I managed to get the standoffs in place and the backplate thing for the connectors (pic related). How the hell do I connect the mobo to it? Am I supposed to bend those little things? Are they supposed to stick somewhere in the connectors? The videos I watched don't say or show anything and just say to screw the mobo, and I haven't found shit on the manual either.
>>52365250 its tricky, but these things need to atleast "touch" the metal housing of their coresponding connectors. So best way is to move the motherboard in with the connector side first. Doing so, you will be "almost"easyly able to "move" most of the connectors under the these pins you talk about.
Others are just made to touch the bottom.
NO NEVER THEY DO NOT go in any connector. but you probabaly can practice a bit if you remove the shield and put it near the motherboard.
install shield again in case, then motherboard is best practise.
this probably wont halp you in anyway, but i wanted to share it anyway
I just got an oscilloscope kit but havent done any soldering in a while. Can anyone suggest a neat cheap thing to make so I can practice before fucking up the oscope? Ideally a kit rather than parts and breadboard - thats for later once the oscope is actually done.
I would assume that's putting a passive cooler with a spare fan blowing over it. I had an AC accelero a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Slap a quiet case fan on there and you get a silent 30C gpu which is just excellent.
Alixpress has tons...
or get a few resistors, leds, transistors and build a "Unstable Multivibrator", get a 555 timer and search how to make it make a sound.
Blinky leds works nice with 555s too, solder on a board or "Bug style"
You don't bend anything. It's barely a shield and it only gently touches que exposed connectors. Btw if you ever need to bend or force anything in your computer, either you're doing it wrong by not pressing a button/unscrewing something or the thing is fucked up and you should stop and rethink your options.
I can get the mobo in position, the problem is that the keyboard connector has one of those metal things on the mobo itself and I can't keep it into position to screw the mobo in because it acts like a spring and I only have so many hands, so if I keep the mobo in position I can't screw it in.
I think its mainly from using a cheap iron in the past but I recall having problems getting the technique of iron and solder on opposite sides of the wire right, meaning having to put solder directly to iron with the result of solder everywhere and melting the board a little. I just want this to be clean since I plan on using it as a primary tool.
like >>52365493 said... ehm,... yes just do it,
this takes atleast 2 weeks to arrive.
btw, I hope its not a DSO138 ... because its a heap of shit. (build one... works... but the range is small and it cant see shit.) but a nice learning curve and looks "geeky"... also, software is old, you cant get the newest... unless you got it officialy... opensource one has bugs.
There is nothing wrong with touching the solder to the iron. How the hell do you even melt the board?
Touch the solder to where you want it on the board. Iron lightly over the top of the solder.
use 1 hand to push gently the board inplace, use other to screw.
(2 hands place the board near the shield, then remove 1 hand while other keeps mobo near position. Use last hand to push board in place (forcing the keybaord one) and use loose hand to screw)
Just do it. we believe in our selves.
The solder would wick up the iron and not actually deposit on the board. The awkwardness just led to it taking long enough to get solder on on there that the board would start to warp. Nothing damaging, just ugly.
But maybe I will just go for it.
It is a DSO 138. I got a JYE and not a counterfeit, but I got the impression that it was at least decent. I'm not expecting anything on par with a proper one and theres no reason for me to drop $100-200 on a real one but the DSO138 does work, doesnt it?
Gotta get a new keyboard. What do you recommend?
Got some criteras:
>Good for programming
>Function buttons for volume, next song etc
>Sort of silent(normyfag with a woman)
>(optional) Sound outlet
My budget range is 1500 SEK or sort of 200$.
Also if /dpg/ is here. Please share images of yours. /bst/ don't program.
Me wife is using our europe banknumber, I use my creditcard, and paypal is for pussys.
anyway, I know this is 4chan.... you can trust alipay. Maybe even more than/then ebay (im dutch, and it takes 2 to 3 weeks to arive)
You can ofcourse keep buying expensive america stuff. also, some sellers use the same name on ebay, so search for the products found on ali, on ebay ;)
DSO 138 has a VERY limited range it can measure. its .... audio level... digital is out of the question, old, new... they are tooo fast, even my old trusty NES or MSX2.
so, have fun listening to your audio, selfbuild ataripunk and 555 timer audio beeper. (could be exactly what you want...
Protip, find a maker/hackerspace.. they usealy have good scoops you can use for your projects needs. or go secondhand, over at EEVBLOG they tell you. atleast 50 bucks.
I got a 100Mhz analog duel channel for 70 and that fina old engineer even gave a complete explaination after I asked... felt like pro.
Still noob, but this DSO is fun to build... till your project is too fast or range too wide.
There are some performance mods, dont count on those, but DO enjoy... maybe you gonna improve it, using a borrod scoop ;)
Also, Alixpress isnt going to support paypal, cause paypal was owned by ebay, and that direct competition ! you see the problem? like MacOS officialy on a HP ? aint work that way.
in many countries they are selling trow away creditcards right? dunno if they work
I can't manage to extend my wifi.
Internet -> Modem/router (connected with wifi and ethernet to other pcs) -> router (connected with ethernet to other pcs but wifi doesn't work).
I can't fucking isolate the problem. The second router is completely transparent. Bridge mode, no nat, no firewall, no upnp, dhcp disabled.
First router is 192.168.1.1 and gives ips in the 192.168.1.100-200 range, the second router is 192.168.1.2. Subnet mask is the same for both of course.
There is connectivity on the second router, but not over wifi. Tried with same SSID, with different SSID, with either different channels or autoscan. I tried to lower the signal a bit so that they would not overlap at all in some areas of my home. I don't use wps.
It doesn't work and I can't get why. Wifi devices are assigned an ip and the wifi signal seems to be optimal, but nothing loads.
You're my last resort, /g/.
Or I'm buying a new one, it might as well just be broken.
Paypalfag isnt me. Most of my initial project ideas are audio anyway. Guitar effects, theremin, etc. Even in my electronics lab I didnt do anything high frequency, though I did the analog chunk and not the digital chunk.
I don't even know what to fall this to look it up, it's coiling but that just gives me other dumb shit
So uh, really stupid question but how fix? I can't "uncoil" it it just goes back the way it was
Can't leave it stretched out overnight, and I'm afraid it'll eventually kill my headset
Good, well then it might work. But please do yourself a favour and check your build afterwards to be sure. Im not sure if the dso has any good filter capasity when main voltages are in the equition or you troubleshooting something. For a quick image of the waveform it is nice. You can pause the screen and set sort of triggers... Again, try to save some money for a good old trusty analog one, or a digital one, tektronics is good
Loudness depends mainly on the type of switches. Avoid those with a sound feedback like the cherry mx blue and similars you see in pic related. Other than that, I'm pretty sure they're equally loud once you press them all the way down.
Still see pic related for what you would feel better when typing. I personally have brown switches on a CM quickfire rapid-i and I find to be pretty great for what it costs, and has everything you require (minus the audio output, but I can't think of any having one). And of course you can choose a tenkeyless if you want more space / find the numpad useless.
Other good models are Filco's or Ducky's, a bit more expensive. They are one of the best when it comes to construction quality.
Other models which can be more expensive are more of a niche for those who like smaller keyboards or particular keycaps, even tho I'm not an expert. I'm not a full /mkg/ dude but I still agree with their advice to get a keyboard with a standard layout because being able to change keycaps in the future is a great option, even though you might not be interested in that now. So discard razer, corsair, those kind of things.
Uncoil, hold, apply "warm" not hot. Then cold. While keeping uncoiled. ... After cooldown release... If fail, inner cables are twisted and the cable is fucked. Check warranty, buy new cable and solder. I think. I could be wrong... Never have this cause i take care of my stuff because people like you "borrow" my stuff
What's the best free SD card data recovery tool/software for Mac? All of the free software I tried was unable to find/repair corrupted photos from my camera's SD card. Ones that cost money, such as RescuePro and Card Rescue, were able to find and repair the photos, but only let me preview them and I had to buy the full version to save them. Any suggestions?
Hey guys, or /g/entoomen as I believe you like to be called hehe :). My girlfriend is going to Europe for the semester and she needs a new phone, apparently all the exchange students need to download a special app that helps with meeting new people. I hope she makes lots of new friends :). Anyways, I was wondering if I should get her an android or an iPhone? I'll also be taking care of her son while she's away. I want to teach him a programming language, what would be the best one for a beginner. Have a nice day :)
Welp, actually forgot pic related. See what kind of pressure you might prefer.
they probably use whatsapp, which works on both ios as well as android. android phones are usually cheaper or have better hardware than the iphone.
for teaching programming, start with scratch, then move on to python (easy) or C (hard)
Android (why even apple) and i own wp10 and its getting nasty, will switch hack my lumia920 soon
Scratch will get her son started.. Unless he is older than 12... But again, Scratch, comeback when he starts asking for more.
I need a monitor for work (~24"), mainly programming and ebooks, must be 1440p and ips/pls. Also must be available to buy in the UK.
Keep in mind I will be connecting it to my laptops hdmi port (1.4) so display port is not necessary.
Picture quality is the most important thing. Budget no more than £250
What can /g/entoomen recommend me?
I'm going to get a 6700k when I find one at a decent price, already have the mobo, cooler, PSU, most of my system essentially.
I want to get a 1440p IPS monitor for work and leisure but I won't be getting a GPU since I do't really play video games.
The CPU alone can output at 1440p alone right?
I'm not incredibly tech savvy.
your setup is perfectly fine for what you use it for. if you really want to optimize local network performance and eliminate any local latency issues (e.g. if you have latency issues in online video games due to wifi latency), look into hardwiring your network with ethernet.
So I can keep my old monitor around in case I want to display to both of them?
I didn't know I could do that. Why do you have two monitors of different resolutions up if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks for the tip though.
The coolest thing is that the two monitors are using completely heterogeneous connections. One with mini-DisplayPort and the other with VGA. If you turn the secondary monitor to portrait it makes for a really great window for using the terminal.
I recently installed Xubuntu on my desktop, and I've never ran into this before. Whenever I open Thunar, I am unable to see thumbnails, even with the option to always see thumbnails set.
Was there something I missed?
2 days ago I suddenly noticed I am not being shown image previews, only icons.
I've tried all the settings shit that everywhere online tells you to change and nothing has worked. I use media preview, though have never had a problem with it before, and even activating/deactivating that has had no impact.
Its really annoying me. I just want more efficient browsing in my porn and 4chan image folders.
Just installed FreeBSD on a USB stick but it doesn't want to boot properly. I get to the init screen, select multi user, it starts loading the kernel then the boot process breaks, I tried toggling AHCI as suggested somewhere but it results in a kernel panic. What could be the problem? Wrong disk labels in fstab? How do I lsblk/disk-by-uuid on FreeBSD?
It installed but it still persists. Interestingly enough, thumbnails load just fine when using Thunar as root, even before installing ffmpegthumbnailer.
I deleted both posts in shame.
I just ordered a raspberry pi 2 and a wifi-usb for it.
Do I need to order another usb usb-wifi thing if I want to have torrents running from wifi /and/ use it as a 'piratebox'?
I can't just let people use the wifi that the pi is using for reasons.
Should I use https://www.google.com or https://encrypted.google.com? Please explain the difference since they both are https?
I've tried 2 USB wifi adapters, none of them worked reliable.
The first just didn't get detected. I already had it and it wasn't listed as compatible.
The second I bought just for it just stopped working after a few hours, a reboot fixes it, but it sucks having to restart it every now and then.
Apparently the driver crashed, but I'm not that much into linux to debug it myself.
Everyone says to use a powered USB hub with them because it doesn't have enough power, but what's the point of having a tiny computer that needs 5 extra devices and plugs to make it work.
I ended up laying a cable just for it.
So, if I'd be you, avoid wifi, it's shit on the rpi.
I want to play shows from my computer on my TV without having to have my computer hooked up to my TV. What's the easiest way to go about this? I have an old early-2000s Toshiba CRT and a DVD player. I was thinking of just burning DVDs with the shows I want, but then I thought it'd be easier to get a DVD player with a USB port in it. However, most of those seem to only be able to handle MP4-type files or similar and I've got a lot of MKVs. Maybe some AVIs, too, but I'm away from my external so I can't check right now.
Anyway, easiest way to do that? Doesn't have to be the cheapest, but that'd help, too.
encrypted.google.com only shows ads that are served over https, where normal google.com has ads that could go over http too.
Right, of course, no worries. I solved that with my router, which supports two SSIDs. One I'm using for my own LAN, and the other I use for other purposes, like for when I have friends visiting over that just want Internet access.
So I changed the screen on my OnePlus two today. Thankfully, the screen works, but the flash and the rear-facing camera don't work. They are on different parts though, the flash is on the motherboard, but the camera is a separate module.
What could be causing this?
Were they the cheap 2$~ ones?
I have an extra 40$ one somewhere.
I ordered some random one suggested on the rpi forum.. it was more to ship it than the cost of the actual thing.
I'm already using the guest wifi for something. :\
Does a Bluetooth periferal to read NFC tags exist for mobile phones?
is it possible that an *.mkv file can conatain virus or malware?
I have a CRT, friend.
How would I go about doing something like DLNA with my TV? Is there some sort of box I can purchase that'd hook up to my component cables or something, or is that suggestion based on modern TV capabilities as well?
Unlikely that I'll get an answer here, but here goes anyway:
I have an old Hauppague Colossus capture card that I stream with. I usually use OBS with desktop capture, and use a program called WinTV8 to view my game console's video, as OBS cannot read the card directly (something to do with being unable to decode h264, I have tried OBS multiplatform unsuccessfully).
I just pirated Xsplit and installed that all fine, but now when I launch WinTV8, it doesn't display my console's video output. When I click 'find channel' and select 'HDMI', nothing happens still. I have closed OBS and/or Xsplit before launching winTV8, and still nothing happens. Image is a screenshot of what I see after selecting 'Find Channel -> HDMI'. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Wintv8 was working fine just an hour ago, but seems to have screwed up now that I've installed xsplit.
Get a raspberry pi, install one of the premade media center editions, share the directory with the network and play them with the raspberry.
you'd need a ethernet cable to your TV or preload a USB stick with your files and play it from it then.
As I said, I don't have an Ethernet port on my TV, and I don't have a USB port on my TV. That's why I was thinking getting a new DVD player with a USB port so I could play off of that, but I wanted to see if there was an easier option.
I build something new and decided to move my old pc down to my workshop below my house,
the shop and the house share the same phone line and from what i understand i can't have one modem
for my home pc and one down on the same line, so just to confirm, are my only options wifi or a stupidly long cable?
How do I play .m4a files in Linux? Right now I'm using Ranger to navigate and mplayer to play the music.
I've already tried cmus, moc, RythemBox, deadbeef, ncmpcpp, clementine
I even tried compiling cmus myself but nothing works... how do I fix this
I got this email today from my server
>Cron test -x /usr/sbin/anacron || ( cd / && run-parts --report /etc/cron.daily )
>gzip: stdin: file size changed while zipping
Do I have to be spooked? Did it break?
Hi, I have a very simple question.
Whom should I trust? I recently went ahead and tried installing my own CPU cooler with CoolerMaster thermal paste, and HWMonitor tells me it's 80°C at the coldest of times. But my AISuite 3 (Asus motherboard) tells me it's only 36°C. Whom should I trust? I think HWM is reasonable, but I trust the motherboard program a little more. I don't know, however this could potentially fry my CPU. All 3rd party programs tell me it's around 90°C idle, but I've touched the heatsink and it's colder than room temperature. I don't know. Help me, /g/entlemen!
This is simply definitions. Hashes + salt is a best practice (salt is very important to render rainbow tables ineffective) to make people authenticate. They type in their password, which will be hashed, and then compared against the hash of the password on the server's database when the user first registered.
This is fundamentally different from a encrypting your passwords yourself to access them later on when you try to authenticate against for example, the database in the previous example.
When you encrypt something, you want to be able to decrypt it back to the plain text. This is very different from hashes, as hashes are one-way functions. Think of hashes as a meat grinder which whatever you grind through it you can not reassemble back again to it original form. That's why it such a great mechanism for authentication, but not intended to store passwords you wish to decrypt back again.
I hope this clarified the fundamental distinction between hashes and encryption. If not, please tell me where you're stuck.
Every other youtube video I watch on firefox is plagued with these streaks that occur every 5 seconds or so, lasting for about 3 seconds. Firefox is up to date, and the video works fine on other browsers such as chrome. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix?

I'm having an issue with my desktop. I had windows 7 installed on an SSD, and all of a sudden it started booting so slowly I decided to format it and re install windows fresh, assuming something went wrong. That was around a week ago, now it's happening again and I'm not sure what's going on. I ran Crystal on it and it said it was 100% healthy, nothing wrong with it at all. What can I do now? I mean I could just re install it again but if it's going to happen again I might as well try to fix it now. Bios is updated, the other components are working fine as far as I can tell.
What are good some good wifi range extenders?
Most of them look the exact same thing. Are there any features to look for?
File system consistency check usually runs automatically when the system experienced an unexpected shutdown. Did you forcefully power it off at one point?
Anyway, just let it finish and check your startup processes. If it happens again, just abort the consistency check (but don't forceful power off your system that much...)
Will do, it's just so strange, I never force it off, twice this happened after it was turned off normally, that's why I can't really say it was that. Will tell how it went as soon as it is done, but it's only at 1%, I think it's going to be at least 4 to 5 hours... nevermind, it jumped to 5%.
Am I the only one having issues with google right now? I keep getting the unusually traffic captcha message and when I get passed that it constantly goes to the top of the google mage with the url constantly changing back in forth
Someone stole my wallet then used my cards and ID to order several phones in my name. I found they used this IP 188.8.131.52 to place the orders on 4th jan at approx 4am but its with ee/tmobile so its probably a pay as you go sim.
Can anyone get any more info from that to help me catch these fuckers? Maybe someone who works for a carrier can get the telephone number of the sim or imei of phone?
The wheel on my wireless mouse is messing up. It frequently scrolls in the opposite direction i'm trying to scroll to the point where I sometimes get nowhere. What do I do about this? It was working fine when I got it.
It's done, here's what I have. The Hsmgr item comes from my Xonar D1 soundcard drivers, same with cmicfng. Booting options are default, I'm running MLB and an antivirus scan.
Then I'm not seeing anything suspicious, but try to disable them all and see if it makes any difference after a reboot. If not, then it's not the boot up processes. If it makes a difference, turn them back on one by one while rebooting in between and try to find which process is giving you such a hard time.
