I can't manage to extend my wifi.
I have:

Internet -> Modem/router (connected with wifi and ethernet to other pcs) -> router (connected with ethernet to other pcs but wifi doesn't work).

I can't fucking isolate the problem. The second router is completely transparent. Bridge mode, no nat, no firewall, no upnp, dhcp disabled.

First router is 192.168.1.1 and gives ips in the 192.168.1.100-200 range, the second router is 192.168.1.2. Subnet mask is the same for both of course.

There is connectivity on the second router, but not over wifi. Tried with same SSID, with different SSID, with either different channels or autoscan. I tried to lower the signal a bit so that they would not overlap at all in some areas of my home. I don't use wps.

It doesn't work and I can't get why. Wifi devices are assigned an ip and the wifi signal seems to be optimal, but nothing loads.

You're my last resort, /g/.
Or I'm buying a new one, it might as well just be broken.

KVM also has USB pass-through, but if you just want to do a dd, why not directly from your OS? Or if you don't use a Linux system, try booting from a live CD/DVD/USB. Note that dcfldd is much more accurate and forensically sound, and can display status in a verbose way.

Not sure if it's a stupid question, but let's say you had an infinite cashflow and wanted to build a computer next week. Money is no object.

Hey guys i'm trying to get a new graphics card. I had an r9 270x but my roommates dog bit into it.

Recently had my laptop stolen, so I'm in the market for a new computer. Unfortunately this has come at a time when I am poorer than I've ever been, due to studying full-time and trying to pay for all of my living costs on a part-time job. So I want a good quality computer for cheap.

What do you guys think about this, or the similar ones on Amazon?

Built a new PC but kept the hard drive the same as my last built, pretty much everything has changed except for the drive I use to boot Windows. I'm getting this BSOD which is apparently HDD related.

Is it not good practice to use the same hard drive in a different build or is there some other issue I should be looking for here?
>>

You can't just throw in a harddrive from 1 build and then boot from it on another. You need to format it to use it as a new boot drive.

I'll use my build as an example. I had this problem using a laptop HDD in a desktop years ago. I found an easy fix. If you were using 8.1 Windows can automatically adjust for this problem (not important, just saying this was fixed)

I'm sure you're familiar with device manager. The drivers for your CPU (pic) are preventing you from booting Windows. You need to get into Windows, right click uninstall all displayed, shutdown and startup in the new build.

The new proper drivers initialized. The only way I know you can get into Windows is through the old build, I'm not sure how you could do it now. Maybe safe mode? But you know what needs to be done

I've been running Mint Cinnamon for a while now, and it works great. I just found a very nice setting where pressing CTRL shows where the mouse pointer is.

However now whenever I attempt to switch tabs in the file explorer via CTRL + TAB, nothing happens.

Other applications, such as Firefox behave normally. Is there a workaround so I can have both features?

Thankfully there's a store that has the parts I confirmed. Lower prices then at Amazon and Newegg too. Microcenter. Need to check that place out sometime.

I think my motherboard is fucked, /g/. The RAM slots are acting weird. It's a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SOC, and when I turn the machine on, I get a continuous beeping until the machine decides to reset and begin the process anew. This happened about a year ago and I was completely lost, so I called their tech support and it was apparently RAM-related. It's happening again.

The machine only fully POSTs and boots when a single stick is in either slot 2 or 3, having two sticks in 0/2 or 1/3, or having a single stick in either 0 or 1 causes the continuous beeping. I've tried two different sets of memory and it's the same thing. Do I need to RMA the board? This would be the second time in two years.

I there a way to get Win 10 on my desktop for free in a legit (or semi-legit) way?

I take it that's just for the monitor? Could've sworn $130-$150 gets you a decent one. Hell, my brother has an Asus monitor that has yet to fail him. Looking on getting the exact same one. Right now I'm trying to wonder if 16GB of memory is worth it. Current laptop has 8GB but due to hoarding tabs on Firefox it tends to take up 1-3GB of memory for days before crashing.

Also, why the hell is Windows 7 more expensive then 10? Tempted to save money with an ISO but I rather not get nagged with a "this Windows is not genuine" message.

And just to be sure, its more stable to have two 1TB HDDs then a single 2TB HDD, right? Provided whichever case I choose comes with the bays and cables.

Do you want to handle splitting things across two disks? I don't, go with a 2tb and just dump it all on there, there is no difference if you get the same speed.

My Asus Q400a recently bricked after only 2 years of use. The power jack shorted. I bought a new jack and tried soldering it on to the motherboard, but I must have burned something, because the laptop still won't charge. A used motherboard on ebay is like $130, and the model has a history of faulty powerjacks, so I'm going to just buy a new laptop.

what should I do with this laptop now? It's got 8GB of ram and an i7. Should I sell it, or use it for parts? All I used it for was coding simple shit and browsing the web.

>I havent bought a monitor in 5 years, my brother got one last year, it was an asus it was a 1080p 144mhz for somewhere around that.
144mhz? Sounds like a gaming screen. Looking for a general one. 60mhz. True, I have games but the bigger issues are graphics and space for me.
>With current ddr3/4 prices its waste not to get 16gb.
Thought DDR4 was negligible or redundant unless you're doing heavy-duty video editing. I'll keep hunting for reliable and affordable DDR3 16GB memory. For some reason Logical Increments only lists DDR4 for that size, and at much higher tiers.
>I havent used windows since xp, and even then i pirated it. Im sure there is some way to fake genuine it as it has been with every copy ever.
I'll look into that. I already have the ISO (a leftover from a trade school) so that's a last resort if I'm not willing to drop $140.
>>52374527
>Do you want to handle splitting things across two disks?
Getting sick of externals and space always seems to be a premium with me (can't bear to delete stuff I think I'll never find again), so that might be why I up and said that.
>Your motherboard will come with cables
And I hope the case comes with those hook things for extra HDDs. Brother has a spare 5'' HDD lying around because his case doesn't have the proper stuff to keep it aligned in its bay. Think he should've done more research on that but its something I intend to learn from.

So, my VGA started acting really strangely, the "Nvidia Driver has stopped working" is happening all the time (and I did the little registry fix everyone talks about) but most of the time everything just freezes for some seconds and when it comes back, there's some static on the screen.

My home computer VGA is pretty old, a 9600GT, so I don't ignore the hardware problem possibility, but I suspect (and I'm by no means an expert, obviously) that it can be a problem with the last updates, since I heard 9600GT stopped being supported by recent drivers, yet it install new updates all the time.

Is there a way to know the best driver version for my VGA? Or it will probably not work?

32GB would be the lowest amount I would recommend,

64GB is enough for basic use.

120GB is ideal for dual/boot and/or every application other than specific/very heavy software that would justify a 240GB SSD.

Anything else is just wasting money where you could get a M2 or PCIe SSD.

Gotta use Eclipse for class.

Test1.java is a test for LetterInventory.java--it feeds it test1.txt. Why doesn't it think test.txt is in the same damn directory? In the tree to the left it shares the same directory as LetterInventory.java and Test1.java. Thunar says it's in the same directory.

I figure it's an Eclipse problem. It looks like LetterInventory.java and Test1.java are in the "default package;" test1.txt can't be copied into there. Is the "default package" some sort of invisible pseudo-directory just for Eclipse?

I use rssowl, java based so works fine across multiple platforms, decent filtering (deletion, sorting, etc of rss articles) and doesn't perform too much like shit.

but when you say you want to use it for anime, in what sense? Many torrent clients have a rss reader built in that allows you to autoDL torrents from rss feeds, is that what you want or do you just want to be notified.

Personally I use rss feeds for just about everything to avoid actually going on sites since more often than not I only care about a subset of their information. Saves me the time of going there and checking shit, even on 4chan, it allows me to be notified of threads of interest since some of the anime I like don't often get threads.

unless your computer is from like 2001, 64 bit
64 bit allows you to use more than 4GB (3.4GB or so actually), gives a bit better performance in some applications and gives improved security due to the improved instruction set used. The only real reason to use 32 bit is old hardware.

Not the best article but summarizes some of the benefits

I'm trying to locate this message window in the RAM dump but no matter what I try to search, both in the assembly code and in the memory dump I cannot locate the japanese text.

For example "る" that's visible in the message window, should be 82E9 in hex, it appears only once in the memory dump and it's not related to the message window, I thought if I tried to search a part of the text converting it to hex, I'd be able to locate the full text string but nope, what am I doing wrong? is there somewhere else I need to look?

I thought the memory dump of a specific process contained the full bytes in use by that process, where should I look to locate the bytes related to this message window?

Also I noticed there're kilobytes and kilobytes of repeating memory strings, isn't that a lot of wasted memory space? or is ASUS just bad at optimization?

I have an SD card that Windows 10 seems to not only be unable to read it (it keeps mounting and unmounting repeatedly) but also corrupts it and makes it not able to be read by my 3DS. It works just fine when mounting on my Windows 7 machine but I have to do a full reformat (not just a quick reformat) until my 3DS can read it again.

How do I get Windows 10 to read it properly? I'm using one of those multi-card USB card readers.
>>

I found your issue. I kind of lied to you. "for" loops in bash can handle spaces well depending on the circumstances.

Try this script:
a[0]='as df'
a[1]='12'

for i in ${a[@]}
do
echo "$i"
done

Run it. Note how "as df" comes out with "as" and "df" on separate lines. Now try this script:

a[0]='as df'
a[1]='12'

for i in "${a[@]}"
do
echo "$i"
done

Your code has the exact same issue.

Also please use something like shellcheck.net in the future. It caught your mistake and said "Double quote array expansions to avoid re-splitting elements." which was your exact issue.

I think it's ANSI, I copy-pasted the "る" from the character map in a text file and saved it, then opened it with an hex editor to see the value. I'll try converting to other formats then and see again if it shows up in the memory.

No, it's clearly shift-jis encoding. I know it is because that's RU's code in shift-jis. Internally, the program most likely uses unicode and so you should be searching for unicode code of RU, not for sjis code or RU.

Is there a way to share usb 3 bandwidth equally among hard drives? One transfer is fine but transferring to the second and third drive as well brings everything to a halt and sometimes freezes.
>>
>>52380566
That sounds like a bit of both, though more to do with CPU.
Fo4 is horrendously optimised CPU wise because it does a lot of rendering that literally has no benefit for you (like in the city, rendering people/objects that are out of view in such a way there's no chance of seeing them)
If you had the 280x, I'd have said ONLY CPU, but seeing as its ultra, the GPU *MIGHT* not be quite up for it either.
Mind you, I play on 2560x1440 with a Fury X so I could be wrong and simply under-estimating the 270x's performance at 1920x1080, seeing as the last card I had was 7950 (equivalent to a 280)
>>
>>52380708
Blame the motherboard at this point. You've tested everything else and if it was RAM, you'd get BSOD saying memory management error/POST beeps telling you of faulty memory.
The only thing that would cause a BLACK screen of death would be CPU or motherboard, but you've tested CPU so it'd be mobo.

Is a 16 GB pagefile on a Windows Server with 16 GB of RAM necessary? This is what Windows automatically set.
>>
>>52371278
Depending on the purpose of the emulator, it might not though. An emulator of a single chip, or basic home computer, can be highly accurate: and it needs to be, because you have no idea what code will be rub on there. Emulating a custom single purpose computer with several custom chips (basically what arcade boards are) can be exponentially harder to do accurately, because of how it was designed. Some arcade emulators strive for accuracy, others only to play the game. Or look at the n64/gamecube,/wii emulators. Ther ones with JIT, that use your native graphics card to do the rendering, can scale up to HD resolutions, apply 4x antialiasing, etc. Those aren't accurate at all. But they're worth it all the same.
>>
>>52381278
Unless you have a good reason to, let windows manage the page file.

Are your services crashing for to running out of memory? Then order more RAM, and increase the page file size, while you wait on delivery.

Are you so strapped for storage space you need to steal 8G of that 16 not to run out of space? Then order more disk, halve your page file size and remove cruft while you wait on delivery.

Do I need an offline UPS if I have a good PSU (Seasonic MII)?

>>
is pcie 2.0 2x 1000gbyte/s?
>>
>>52381365
A UPS protects you from power outages. Ones with automatic voltage regulation also protect against brown outs. I'll assume you mean without AVR as offline. The tech for AVR has gotten so cheap, it's not worth it to get the models without it. If you get a UPS, make sure you install some software to test it and monitor it. Commonly apcupsd in Linux & BSD, free vendor software on windows.

If you run long jobs on your machine, or ones that don't shut down cleanly, then get a UPS.

If you have shitty power in your home, or your computer shares a circuit with heavy appliances that can sometimes draw more then they should, get a UPS.

Trendnet and Cyberpower both make acceptable small UPSes. Until you get into the really expensive office/server room stuff, the more expensive gives you longer time on battery, and more replacement warranty should it fail and kill your hardware. Not more reliability or longevity. Expect them all to last 2-5 years. Also, going up enough in price to get one with a replaceable battery was more than most home setups last I checked.
