'Sonichu' is the same as Wolverine or Batman.

This is not a stock name and would be considered a unique expression. Therefore a copyright could be obtained. Fixed in a tangible medium of expression is a real thing with copyright laws and this guy, or whatever he is this week, has it in spades because this comic has been going on for a while. He would win any lawsuit for the name and possibly, again this is the grey area due to back story and the real sonic, for the likeness as well. Though I seriously doubt he could get away with the likeness. If Sega came out with a Yellow Hedgehog he could not do a damn thing because Sonic is a unique expression as well; with a true copyright.

The name however could be, and technically is his copyright.. You are misunderstanding the laws. Names and titles relate to common names, a corporation, catch phrases, etc. The laws do not protect those names because if it did Burger King could copy right their name and then demand it is never used in a news story or review. They can be trademarked. Copyright laws are used to protect creative works. This is a unique name, not common name like Bob Smith or Fred Dukes. If that was the case Batman has a copyright, but Bruce Wayne does not.
