Seriously, she was just as much a hero as Ruby was during the invasion. She showed she'd grown past her past-bias against Faunus, risking her own life in order to save just one person.

Then when every single person from the Paladin fights (including her) was too physically drained to go find Jaune and Pyrrha, she still volunteered to help without even needing to be asked by Ruby.

I fell in love with her a bit more when she said "No, WE will find them".

I don't think it's as black and white as that. All sorts of characters can be argued to have been made irrelevant by the stakes going up. Prime example, Neo is a henchwoman, arguably an even more minor player than Roman. But she's still around.

I can see why they'd want Roman out of the picture if they want to introduce new villains, and "trim" the cast a bit. Maybe the focus moving away from Vale makes him irrelevant, since he was more of a local player.

I should probably add that while he was my favourite character i accept his death (more or less). I just don't quite agree with the idea that he had become inherently useless as a character.

I honestly don't know how people can interpret these tweets as anything but the confirmation of Pyrrha's death. If Pyrrha's death was uncertain, why would her VA confirm that she's no longer voicing her for future volumes and that she hopes she is still able to voice new and existing RWBY characters that are still living? At best, you could say there maybe some flashbacks concerning Pyrrha. Combination of two things. Making a convincing scream, especially a long one like Ruby did is horrendously tough. Plus you need to do a bunch of post processing on it and have very good equipment to deal with the increased volume and pitch that occurs when doing such a loud scream/yell. It's probably one of the toughest things to do as a VA.
