Post the thing you liked the most about this volume and the thing you liked the least.

Liked the most: RJNR setting out for Haven. I didn't realize it until we got it, but it's exactly what the show needs at this point. Having another volume tethered to the school with 3/4 of the plot being routine slice of life storylines and only the final 1/4 actually driving the plot forward would have hurt the show. Now we can get an idea of what the outside world looks like and widen the scope of the show.

Liked the least: even more new characters introduced while some of the main cast are still underdeveloped

Technically, "Ruby" may have said she was best of friends with Jaune during the Q&A panel. Keep in mind, in this panel she also unironically said she loved Wiess ("not like that!") and Penny - as far as I recall.

We should probably consider that we're discussing Ruby here. If she was good friends with anyone, I'm not sure the girl could actually stomach to pick favorites. At least until she cracks and lets her warrior run wild, she's basically innocence incarnate - like Red Riding Hood. Weiss would probably rather stab you and herself than admit she's tight with Ruby in public (because Ruby is a goofus with zero social skills), but her actions speak louder than words.

Things I liked: Potential for more worldbuilding, "snuff it out", ditching the school setting, characters' personality being challenged (Yang, who usually does the supporting, suddenly is in dire need of a friend to rely on, Ruby's innocence is shattered, Blake is confronted by her fears, Weiss will have to face her problems)

Things I didn't like: Instant descend into death and anguish. I would've been fine with the plot elaborating more on Cinder's keikaku and Yang's situation, spending some more time on showing how the society slowly became more and more distrustful of the government. It could've ended on public openly stating their distrust, other Beacon students avoiding Yang and Yang doing something dangerous and stupid, and then season 4 would've been about everything getting fucked. It's a problem with pacing that we got due to the first two volumes being spend on a generic school setting, and not only did it fuck up the build up for the eventual angst, it also made the shift in the tone all the more jarring.

Dafuq? Weiss and Ruby are clearly BFF's their support is mutual and their chemistry noticeable. Weiss even came to condone Ruby's goofy antics and allows herself to goof around her which says tons about a dignified and prideful girl like her.

The finale was soul crushing for me as a Pyrrha fan but one of the coolest scenes was Weiss pulling her shit together to motivate and follow Ruby, giving her best effort and fully trusting in the little girl as her leader. I don't really like Ruby that much but her friendship with Weiss is really touching, specially considering Weiss life till that point.

PS: I made a custom icon of Penny for you to use for however you see fit - it is in the initial directory upon opening the file.

TL;DR: I developed a computer AI personality that can be interacted with and tailored it to be that of Penny Polendina from RWBY and packed with a unique icon for the program. Have fun.

I think a lot of people are arguing about best friends because a lot of people have different definitions. Some more quiet kids would say their best friend is a person they hang out with only occasionally, while a more popular and sociable person would say they have have multiple close best friends. Why? I'm a native English speaker and this was made specifically for English speaking audiences. There's no point. It really doesn't matter how well-made the Japanese dub is, they still have to make sure their dialogue matches the mouth movements of an English speaking show, which lowers the overall quality of it by changing the dialogue, use of awkward phrases or timing to match the mouth movements, and substituting cultural terms and meanings only found in Western culture.

This. That's why you use the definition of the character that you're talking about. The character in show calls Weiss her best friend? Then she's her best friend. The VA in character calls Jaune her best friend? Maybe she has a say in it too because of how the show is made I guess so he's her best friend too. Maybe that's the way the character thinks of best friends. Not like there's no basis for both anyway. She's close with both of them and I doubt Ruby's the type to even make it a contest or weight her friends.
