Yes. Can confirm. Sealing them in two plastic bags and a 4 gallon trash bag helps, but not fully since odor and smell is a tricky thing. The carpet powder acts similarly to baking powder where it absorbs the smell and reduces the odor while applying its own powerful scent.

It's not going to be a 100% no-smell-at-all-effect, but it helps dramatically to the point that you could store and hide them for a bit without the smell getting out too quickly. It's worth trying, especially with how cheap they are (less than $2). I use Clean Linen scent, but any you prefer should work just as well.
