Macross Delta? More like Love Live Delta.
As a fan of Plus I'm disappoint.
As someone who thinks the original Macross TV is the best Macross series, I'm fine with Delta. They just want to do something more light-hearted.
The only thing I didn't really like was the magical girl-esque transformations. Except for that the episode was cool.
>I almost burst out laughing when the valkyries did their fucking synchronized dancing section.
>Sometimes I can't decide is Kawamori is a genius or high off his tits.
High. The answer is high. This is the same guy responsible for Aquarion.
What did they mean by this?
Well, guess we'll see how it actually turns out.
Could go either way right now
>it's just that people conveniently ignore that.
They would rather point out on focus strictly on the moments such as where almost all of humanity went extinct and that's it.
The truth of the matter is that the only thing people cared about at the very end of SDF (and I would say all of the other shows as well) was who Hikaru was going to fuck, fate of humanity be damned.
>expect more Seikan Hikou idol shit
>don't even get that
music was underwhelming as fuck, I thought lead girl VA was very expressive though, I liked her
This shit feels too mahou shoujo though
The fight scenes were alright but everything else was fucking awful. That fucking main girl is ALWAYS yelling. I'm so sick of that shit.
Otaku are fags and have ruined anime with this moe shit.
>kawamori doesn't know what the fuck he's doing
Considering how popular Frontier was, and how popular AKB0048 was, and how popular Delta will likely be, I'd say he knows EXACTLY what he's doing.
Lemme give you a protip, son: Plus and Zero didn't sell all the well. The best selling Macross stuff has always been batshit insane music magic with idols and planes and shit.
>almost 8 years since F
>during the adolescence of CG
>manage to make a worse looking show despite the fact
christ, Frontier was the 100million dollar summer blockbuster of anime, it just oozed quality, from the 10/10 soundtrack to the epic and cinematic fight scenes, to the well paced story(first half anyways)
>Considering how popular Frontier was, and how popular AKB0048 was, and how popular Delta will likely be, I'd say he knows EXACTLY what he's doing.
Not that anon but I'm convinced now.
He also said all episodes up to 5 would be vastly different. My guess is that episode 2 is going to be battle-heavy and someone is going to day, probably that Herman guy from the fuccbois squad.
Indeed she was, but when Macross Plus first came out everyone praised it for
I guess after the hype died down, people saw it for what it really was.
Kawamori should've done another SUPER SERIOUS OVA in between Frontier and Delta, like he did with Plus between SDF and 7, or Zero between 7 and Frontier.
That way the "MACROSS IS NOT ABOUT MUSIC AND IDOLS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" faggots would've been satisfied, and we could have our dancing valkyries in peace.
So who's watched AKB0048?
I think most people have always thought Plus to be "okay". Not worth arguing about. The problem is people who think Plus is the only entry in the franchise that mattered
I remember how excited plusfags were when the first key visual came out in September showing the VF31 and the Draken because this seemed like the second coming of Plus.
And then one month later they revealed the second key visuals with the idols and the long-haired pretty boys. Glorious.
wew what a pile of shit
Some music makes people insane and the only thing that can stop it is some mahou shoujo moe moe uguu uguu pop idol group. What a fucking interesting conflict.
And the CGI is horrendous.
At least Gundam Thunderbolt is good. They can somehow manage to create something good. Kawamori is just high on crack.
Fucking lewd pachinko machines
>This shit feels too mahou shoujo
And Zentradi being pacified by song and dance isn't? This is still the exact same shit
>implying he'll ever listen to baka gaijins
Macross will never ever be marketed abroad so he doesn't need to give a fuck about making Macross serious.
Let's be honest for a second here: Macross is fundamentally stupid, and there's nothing worse than something stupid taking itself seriously. When something stupid doesn't take itself seriously and throws out great song and dance? It's a lot of fun.
>Frontier definitely had a lot of light-heated moments, but this magical girl shit?
Sheryl magically transformed during her stage shows; Ranka had her stupid magical girl mascot. This isn't a quantum leap.
Which is more badass than anything Minmay or Sheryl or shit Ranka ever did.
Why aren't you even happy that they're part of the conflict now instead of being pure idol pandering?
Remember when the first Macross teleported itself to Pluto and everyone there was trapped in space while being pursued by an overwhelming alien fleet and everyone in the Macross decided that the next best course of action was to put on an idol contest? Yeah.
Watashi no kara wa
It's been one episode. Heck, it's not even the official first episode. While it's looking a lot like magic and AKB0048, give it a few more episodes. They had the dogfight and music on point and a love triangle is sure to surface in due time. If it ends up being an entertaining ride by the end, it's all good. It wouldn't hurt to be more alike previous Macross series but it hasn't strayed exceptionally far like people are claiming. Let it happen.
I miss the days when Macross was serious.
Join Date: Apr 2010
This is the same franchise that gave you Valkyries dressed up as Zentradi and helping a Zentradi light a cigar with its gunpod. Also the same franchise which had Zentradi spies hilariously cross dressing.
>It's Macross, not fucking Symphogear.
One of them better get turned on when singing during battles.
I missed gg.
Plus was the best macross
prove me wrong
Not happening as it is Macross. Though they are changing it up slightly this time round.
>Kawamori pointed out that the delta symbol in the logo is made of triangular symbols, to symbolize the three main thematic elements of Macross: music, a love triangle, and transforming fighter planes. However, he noted that the two symbols are split, and explained that this is indicative that the three elements will not come together as expected in the new story.
>And Zentradi being pacified by song and dance isn't? This is still the exact same shit
I actually argued in the last thread that singing in Macross serving as communication between 2 different species is not magical at all, considering music can communicate feelings even if they don't understand the lyrics. It makes sense for the pacifist message of Macross.
Now stuff like the Var syndrome and whatever the fuck Main girl species is, that's magic.
Spiritia and Song Energy never came back because they didn't make any fucking sense. If they're going to have music doing magic shit I hope they explain it well.
>Sheryl magically transformed during her stage shows; Ranka had her stupid magical girl mascot. This isn't a quantum leap.
Sheryl used Holograms in her concert just like the new girls, that's not magic, so no complaints there. Ranka had a Vajra as a mascot, iirc, and Vajra are not likely to appear in this series unless it's some sequel to Frontier.
Going back to the roots then.
It's obvious MC is going to join the Macross dancing team too, so I wonder if they're going to have one of the active pilots die or they're just going to have an extra pilot.
Wasn't grim reaper blue?
Rock went well with Basara, I can't see idols doing it well, and idols are better suited for modern series because viewers can relate better to the show that way.
>Marcoss will never have a series about space pirates trying to get big off their mixtapes and flying stolen valkries
>you will never get to see space Kanye ntr an idol from a military pilot
She should've been full blonde.
It's probably Kawamori's most politically charged series.
And by that I mean Basara goes full hippie most of the series, and the OVAs.
Still has some great songs and fun characters though.
>the wings fold in
>that timing on GIRI GIRI AI
Oh fuck, too good.
I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed the first episode of AKB Symphocross. Had a huge stupid grin on my face the entire way through.
>Idols and love triangle don't makes old macross idolshit like Delta.
Point is, it was never "mech show with idols"
And this is the fucking preview episode, fuck off, Frontier and 7 also had plenty of episodes with the focus on the slice of life or the music.
Will Macross ever have a hot kickass chick again?
>Soooo... this a Love Live! meets Macross? *sigh* Passing on...
>This Macross series is falling under the same AKB48 marketing model garbage that Japan otaku pervs have been buying into for years. It's really a pathetic state that Macross is in if they need to lean on that to sell a series.
>Wow, this is some hot garbage. Talk about taking an aesthetic too far. From the terrible CG to the hardcore pandering, it's like they've dropped all pretenses of this being a Macross show and have gone full "idol superheroes" like other shows. Stop hurting yourself, Macross franchise. We're worried about you. Come home.
>Macross went off the deep end after Macross II more than 20 years ago. Kawamori is a hack. He might be a genius mecha designer (praise where it's due), but he's the George Lucas of anime when it comes to storytelling. Macross simply has no future in his hands as a science fiction epic. And this new Delta does nothing but confirm it. At this point in time Macross is used to sell airplanes, loli figures and music cd's. The story went out the window ages ago.
If you actually go back and watch SDF Macross and even Plus it's far from just about idols and music exclusively. It's gotten more and more about that stuff over time though starting with Seven and the modernization of the franchise with Frontier which Delta looks about ready to fully complete
That was back when Yoko Kanno was actually kind of remarkable. I haven't really been impressed with any soundtrack she's done since Rahxephon though really. It's not bad since then, just nothing really memorable.
What model did Alto use at the end of the Frontier movies again?
>Oh fuck, I can't stop listening to GIRI GIRI AI halp.
I'm afraid I cCan't help, I have the same problem. Literally non stop today
It's its own frame. The wings don't move and it has a pretty unique missile pod.
Macross 30 was pretty fun, if repetitive..
My Nyaa-fu is too weak. In the meantime, I'm just repeating those two minutes of the episode over and over again. Got a link for it?
I thought it was the YF-29 Durandal?
Kawamori is a fucking weird idiot like most of anime's key people nowadays. I don't care how much his stuff sells or doesn't which frankly since Macross Frontier it has not and I don't know if that was the 2008 factor and Bandai's marketing machine at the time or not.
A kind anon uploaded it in a previous thread.
GIRI GIRI AI
But like in all honesty are you really surprised. With where the anime scene is in general right now I sure as hell can't be nor mad either. It is what it is and a sign of the times really. Straight mecha doesn't really sell anymore, it makes total fucking sense for Bandai Visual to play it further in the direction of pretty much their and animes most explosively successful franchise of the decade and where the trends are blowing. Music anime FUCKING sells and Bandai has all the right packaging styles to make Delta sell if they play their cards right which I'm sure they will. If they make it a straight mecha type series outside of an OVA format it's going to bomb, can't blame em'.
>Frontier also had transforming outfits
pretty damned sure those were LASER LIGHT SHOW EFFECTS and not clothing literally transforming into idol/battle gear
>and skirt boosters
and? booster packs are a lot more 'believable' than girls floating in the air
I'm conflicted. I haven't watched it yet so maybe it works better together with the episode.
It's not bad. Beyond the main story progression structure you're given 3 large expanses of land to explore and lots of optional content.
It's repetitive, but if you like Macross and enjoyed the PSP games you'll probably still enjoy it.
Missile trails are fucking gorgeous in motion and GERWALK is still OP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg_znyNriqg
If you plan on importing it you'll find this helpful:
>If you plan on importing it you'll find this helpful:
OH god, this is exactly what I need. Imported it 2 years ago along with E.X. Troopers. Played it for a bit along with EX until I got completely hooked on EX. Played some other games after finishing it and when I finally came back to play M30 I had no idea what the hell I was doing because I can't read moon. Managed to play it by listening to the voices and pressing the shown buttons during the tutorial. Finally I can actually play the game.
Walküre-Tang Clan ain't nuthing ta fuck wit.
Ska is my best bet.
So what happend to her when she was younger? Looks like a fleet crashed and burned or something here.
I cant wait for all the songs, Seikan Hikou and What about my star (Ranka's version) were fucking great aswell as others.
The game is great when you know what you are doing
Shame its not in english, won't be able to know about all the character interactions and how the story goes, gameplay is great and much more fun when you beat the game and can play as all the characters and use any vehicle including Zentradi mechs and Basara's VF.
The game is pretty easy unfortunately and you can save up missiles and spam special versions of them along with special attacks.
My major flaw with this game is the fucking music only plays when you use someone as an assist and it loops maybe once before stopping and the rest of the game is void of music.
>I'm still pretty mad the game bombed in Japan. What the hell.
It's so damn good. Visuals and music is top notch and I love how arcade'y the gameplay it feels.
>Incidentally, Ex Trooper's chara designer is in charge of Delta
I played (and cleared) the game when this this was still in its early days, trying to figure out what some of the optional missions wanted me to was borderline infuriating. Still, I managed to do everything.
Maybe I should boot it up and try out NG+
>Incidentally, Ex Trooper's chara designer is in charge of Delta
Now that you mention it I can see the striking resemblance. I didn't play EX Troopers but I always found the art and character designs to be really striking.
I hate delta idolshit from all my heart but don't even dare to say shit about GIRI GIRI AI or I will find you and abduct your fuckin cat. Don't try to cross borderline, фагит
Honestly, the premise of this show pretty much guarantees idol-offs with dogfights. It's like combining the sing-off of the hospital scene in Frontier with the whole DOUBLE DAEDALUS ATTACK scene. Shit's gonna be so fucking cash.
It's really hard to get that degree of separation between the ring and middle fingers.
>It's really hard to get that degree of separation between the ring and middle fingers.
That's why I said "sort of".
I seem to be able to do it a little bit better than you. Just a little.
Yeah and somehow in the succeeding 7-8 years since anime has still barely managed to get itself back out of the high school setting on average. It's not as bad as it was during that period though....at least that I can recall.
Are you ready to see fat otakus trying to make this symbol in the eventual live concerts?
that episode had a lot of delicious armpits.
Also, as Delta is only set 58 years after the events of SDF, there is a good chance that Max and Milia are still alive and kicking ass somewhere on the M7 fleet. Max would only be 74 years young.
Hikaru and the Megaroad-01 crew are probably still alive, too. I BELIEVE.
>start playing EX Troopers after importing it
I was happy that day.
Red is my favorite. Just sayin'
The stuff you get from Akrids is used for upgrading your weapons and armor. I think, but not sure, that there's also a or two sidequest you use them in. And the food is for basic stuff like more defence/offence and stuff. I think.
I was going to say the plane colors are associated with their respective idols, not the pilots.. but now I'm no so sure.
Her wink here is the most precious thing in the universe.
>What do you remember Zero's storyline?
stupid humans fighting over immovable object & alien artifacts relating to the creation of man? yes, i believe i do. pretty sure it implied aliens populated the stars with humanoids using mechanized robots that look like vajira queen. and that it took the greater part of a decade to show us a small glimpse of who those alien artifacts were based off.
The only thing more important than idol shit in Macross is the love triangle, in fact from Kawamori's own words it's a love triangle set against the backdrop of war. Idolshit has been in the middle.
Going to rewatch the whole franchise in chronological order.
Looks like her hopes left no room for dreams. Her going Ryusei Date over those mechs put her ahead for me.
I'm curious where they're going to go with his character. Alto was pretty well established by the end of the first episode. Hayate, we barely know anything about him. He's a talented slacker with no real goals or direction in life. He's almost definitely going to end up joining Delta squadron as Freyja's partner.
And if that ends up being his calling, what do you do with him then?
>mfw space Islam illness
Maybe idols are the answer to ISIS
>what do you do with him then?
Well it seems it will be all about dancing with the mech. Was also said that there was the colour of the wind while he was robot dancing in the dock yard.
If you watch the episode, you would know that Hayate's problem is that he isn't obsess with anything, at all. Not even slightly passionate about something, that's why he is constantly demotivated and slacking. I'm sure this will change soon via magical singing, love and some innate piloting talent though.
Is he wearing a fold crystal like Sheryl?
That's what always gets me when it comes to mecha, the people that clearly have no fucking idea what they are talking about beaking off to people that do about well...shit they have no idea what they are talking about. It's extra great when it's about stuff like Gundam or Macross and they just post the stupidest fucking shit with their absolute fucking /a/ shitposting confidence letting everyone know they can summarily ignore them from that point on.
Unfortunately yes. It's too bad romantic love triangles and angst bore the shit out of me and I've progressively lost interest in the franchise over time, especially as the average cast has gotten younger and younger so that it's teen romantic angst now for the most part.
He already noticed one of them was late during the mech synchronised flying sequence. So he shows he is pretty attentive to things.
I'm fine with Delta's CG but I wish they go back to add more details
Zero still look better in 20fucking16
Hopefully, but it's obvious they want the CG and 2D animation to blend well.
Which also mean the 2D actually hold the CG quality back.
In Zero they pushed the 2D animation and background quality to match the realistic CG. That couldn't have been easy.
Delta/Frontier and basically every modern anime all do the opposite and tone down the CG quality so it match the poor 2D animation.
I wish someone was crazy enough to do it Zero's way again.
Delta isn't even trying to show any slow close up on the mech because it's even less detailed
Can these bitches stop bullets without their magitech bullshit?
They have much to learn.
i just wanted less idol bullshit. a character being an idol when they aren't a pilot was about as much as i could take
he could have made the robots into sentient singing machines and i wouldnt have given a fuck. but no they gotta go in for the idol crowd.
Don't mind the idols but if they could produce Valkyrie mounted barriers that could block missile barrages why didn't they give any to the poor grunts and ships in orbit?
Those poor Destroid pilots could sure use those tech.
Pachinko music clips.
> all those allusions to Ranka
She's gonna lose hard, isn't she?
Mylene was like fucking 14 and they do everything humanly possible to sexualize her. I've been rewatching the show and it's really noticeable. I had forgotten about the ridiculously oversized bodyguard in glasses that chases her around all the time.
14 years old is the perfect age to be sexualized, though.
So how bad is she gonna suffer?
Or are they going to use the excuse that Mikumo's hair when disguised is green to make her suffer?
He's so freakishly large
The YF-30 and VF-31 are a new design. Arms fold on the outside of the legs, not inside. The way the entire lower body folds up is completely different. Cockpit stays level throughout transformation.
three old friends fighting over love along with a crazy ai, that shit was pure macross and it was awesome.
i don't know how you fags like one series but not another each one is awesome with a different mix of the three pillars that make macross.
It doesn't help that Myung and Guld were super-unlikable. That entire relationship drama made me wish I was watching Kaifun, instead.
Honestly, Macross never really does love interest vs love interest clashes well.
>SDF: Misa and Minmei were mostly okay with each other
>M7: There was more relationship drama with Basara and that mountain than anything else.
>Zero: >implying anyone remembers anything about Sara and Mao
>Frontier: Sheryl and Ranka were literal besties.
If I wanted to watch two assholes fight over a stupid bitch in a really nasty manner, I'd go watch Maury.
>Myung and Guld were super-unlikable
i never got that, myung obviously cared for both but wanted to be a big girl and tried to put them both behind behind her. both she and issamu loved guld enough to hide the the truth from him.
and poor guld couldn't admit to himself the horrible things he did, how could you not feel for the poor guy?
maybe i have a blind spot but i love plus, and not for the mecha, which is awesome, but for a very simple story between high school lovers thrown together again.
and a killer ai and music doesn't hurt either
flawed and tragic sure, but unlikable, i just don't see it
This one feels like she's going to win, since she's the one that can push MC's development most.
Misa won because she taught Hikaru to act like a fucking adult.
Myung ruined the fuck out of Isamu, but I guess he learned to be responsible or some shit.
Sara taught Shin to be tolerant.
Sheryl made Alto face his past and embrace his identity.
The mountain taught Basara to believe in the power of music.
I can't see what femGamlin is going to teach Hayate, so orange Ranka should win.
>Myung ruined the fuck out of Isamu, but I guess he learned to be responsible or some shit.
you are looking at it wrong, guld won because he could admit his past and commit one last heroic sacrifice
Since well before that, I'd say. His big hits are basically Macross entries plus Escaflowne, which is a long time ago. I don't think his recent stuff has had a real decline in popularity if you compare it to Arjuna or Sousei no Aquarion.
Aquarion Evol did sort of okay. It was like an in-the-middle kind of success.
He didn't really make any major shows besides that and AKB0048. Most of the time he's been doing mechanical designs
>I can't see what femGamlin is going to teach Hayate, so orange Ranka should win.
What do you have against Mirage? We barely know anything about her yet you' give her a derogatory nickname like she has anything to do with him.
But anon, I like Gamlin, it's not derogatory.
I thought he was just going with Ranka too, considering he dances on construction mechs so might as well doing it in VFs.
The episode does grow on you, though the valkyrie sequence in front of the crowd with choreographed moves definitely made me cringe.
Giri Giri Ai is top fucking tier however. I'm hype for Delta, but have some reservations. I loved Frontier,
especially Alto/Sheryl's development into the romantic ending that we got.
Also, Sheryl a Ginga Bishoujo.
I'm holding my breath, because I'm not sure if
Shinku no Diamond Crevasse, Universal Bunny, and Pink Monsoon can be topped.
Freyja comes across as Sheryl and Ranka mixed into one character. Has the innocence of Ranka in some parts, and the confidence and drive of Sheryl.
I know why they did it, and she's an endearing character already. But,
Mikumo & Mirage a best.
Without a doubt, the BEST.
I ship dark horse pairings. Always have, always will, even if they don't win.
Alto/Sheryl also solidified my belief that there's hope after all that confident, adult-like characters (body/mind/soul) can in fact win in an anime industry dominated by shitty archetypes.
Ranka a shit, Sheryl a best; Frejya pretty good.
Movie Ranka was pretty good. Sheryl did have a problem in both versions which was lack of character development, but she was still better than Ranka in the TV series.
I'm liking Freyja's expressiveness and confidence a lot, I'll probably end up liking her more than Ranka or Sheryl.
Also, in Macross you always have mature women winning (except 7, but it hardly had any romance), so I don't know what you found so special about Frontier.
I enjoyed the first episode, but it didn't do it for the the way the preview episode of Frontier did. I hope over the next 4 months, gg decides to come back just for this show.
>best episode of the TV series
>best opening arc of the first movie
I found Frontier special, because eight years ago I had just hit 20-ish. Therefore Alto/Sheryl's story was much more personable.
I'm not saying that Freyja is a bad character, I do like her. But I always liked chicks closer to the protag's age/slightly older winning. It's a simple preference. Freyja invokes closer to Ranka than Sheryl with her design.
It's, like, my opinion man.
That said, I liked the dog fighting in Frontier quite a bit. It's up there with Zero, for me.
She still exists in my heart and on my desk.
Frontier opened up like no other. Also, 25th anniversary. It was special.
Oh you FUCKER. Mine's from Itsuwari no Utahime, but I wanted the original so badly. Couldn't get my hands on it.
>Sheryl did have a problem in both versions which was lack of character development
She had tons, going from haughty bitch singer to Ranka's mentor to flirting with Alto to getting sick with space aids and giving up all hope to singing to give hope to the people, fucking Alto and moving in with him to spend her last days in as much happiness as possible. That's a pretty dramatic character arc, most anime characters get way less development than that.
>Now stuff like the Var syndrome and whatever the fuck Main girl species is, that's magic.
The Var Syndrome triggers extreme Misophonia in Zentradi, the idols play other sounds to neutralize it.
Windermere people are a different alien race.
Winderemere is another Macross fleet, not an alien race. The intro literally defines this. What it doesn't show/tell is the history of Winderemere people that led them to become like they are today.
I do think Sheryl was the best choice for Alto, but that has to do with the character, I don't really give a fuck about a character being an adult or a child as long as the ending makes sense.
What I meant is that I don't understand why Sheryl winning in frontier was so special for you when an adult winning happens all the time in Macross.
>She had tons, going from haughty bitch singer to Ranka's mentor to flirting with Alto to getting sick with space aids and giving up all hope to singing to give hope to the people, fucking Alto and moving in with him to spend her last days in as much happiness as possible.
But that's not development though, Sheryl didn't have to evolve her character to flirt with Alto, mentor Ranka or searching happiness, she seemed capable of doing that from the start (and in fact she pretty much did a lot of that right away), and I don't remember her ever acting like a bitch.
She's a pretty static character that happens to have a lot of depth, which is different from development.
Also, dat glorious ending art.
Who Ami indeed.
That's another [email protected] x Macross connection, though loosely.
I was explaining what I meant, not asking again.
Should've said "didn't", not "don't", but whatever man, why are you overreacting.
In any case, it was a comment based on this:
>solidified my belief that there's hope after all that confident, adult-like characters (body/mind/soul) can in fact win in an anime industry dominated by shitty archetypes.
Which didn't make any sense because it's not a rare occurrence.
I did read your reply saying it was personal, and I seriously don't give a fuck anymore.
Yes. Freyja's Seiyuu is also going to be singing/character double role.
Sheryl was the only one (to my knowledge) who had two people playing her part.
I hope Delta can top this.
Also, her deeper voice really gets my heart going.
Yes, but it's still a hilarious show worthy of being watched for the trainwreck factor.
Yes, but it could easily brushed off as the main time line idols doing a mech show. Or dismissed as something that was a Mai Hime show with [email protected] tacked on last minute.
You mean improved right?
Because the second movie was a huge improvement over the second half of the TV series.
Alto and Ranka are both better characters because of that, too.
It's been nine years! Nine! Since Frontier came out, and pixiv is still pumping out art for Frontier (mostly Sheryl).
Very little fanart for this show despite being the best opening preview episode of the year.
I hope it picks up during Spring broadcast.
Also, this came out just a few days before the preview cast.
It's barely been two days since preview cast. Give it at least a week.
I'd like to believe it would be similar to the scene from the actual [email protected] anime where they have the giant robot skit but perhaps that's too outlandish. Or maybe not, considering >>135606977. Onto the backlog it goes.
Even so. The movies improved on areas where the TV series fell short. They were good as they are, and only, really, the second movie actually counts; as it gives explicit closure that the TV series failed to deliver.
The only issue it had was butchering Mikhail and KlanKlan characters.
Otherwise, it solves the plot much more neatly than the TV series did, and Ranka matures much more. Alto is almost the same except for the whole extended ending sequence.
Of course I'm just talking about the second movie being an improvement over the last third/second half of the series, the start of the series was much better on the TV version.
Actually it hasn't been 8 years. Remember Frontier officially aired April 2008 and the pilot episodes hardly count. They had released Frontier's pilot episode on December 2007 to meet with the 25th anniversary.
It got rid of basically all the romance between Sheryl and Alto though. While her win was made explicit it never even needed to be said in the series because it was so blindingly obvious.
Honestly that is what I love about Macross romance. The mature older woman wins the guy instead of the usual archtype.
There was still some romance there, even if much less than in the TV series. It's a fair trade for all the improvements.
Sugita's character was a complete throwaway in the TV series, for example, so his whole arc being eliminated help to smooth the plot. The whole plot regarding the Galaxy is much more concise too. Alto picking a girl at the end also stopped all the arguing about who won (even if Sheryl was the obvious pick), and him going away with the Vajra reinforced the whole communication theme, making for a much better ending.
Only complaints I could have are missing Ozma's flashback episode and Mikhail and KlanKlan development.
Movie obviously works better after watching the TV series though, it's not something I would recommend as a stand-alone work unlike DYRL.
It's nothing special, Myung didn't have competition, in SDF both were adults, in Zero they were both teens and 7 hardly had romance. Your statement would only be right if Frontier was the only Macross series.
Also adult women are not a fucking archetype, and neither are teenagers for that matter. You're using the word archetype wrong, for fuck's sake, most of the adult women in Macross don't even act the same.
You don't know that. Look at that S class Zettai Ryouki. Made up of god tier dreams.
Is everyone dead set on the other person in the triangle being Mirage because it's unlikely for it to be another member of Walkure or is there another reason? Mature contrast to Freyja?
Yeah I hear ya man. I swear to god to fucking hell with all this idol and moe trash. Its ruining good series by having it incorporated ie: Gundam, Macross, Yugioh, Bahamut, Durarara, Gatchaman, Aquarion, ect
It's either Mirage or Mikumo being part of that triangle. Mirage is the more likely choice for that to happen, as she's met both Freyja and Hayate. It also stands to mention that Mirage has
Most of the other girls seem to be more mature than Freyja.
But actually, if you think about it, Mirage seems pretty childish, if business oriented, Freyja while goofy can probably act more mature, she certainly seemed so when talking with Hayate.
The only other character I could guess as part of the triangle is Mikumo, as that's only if they want to repeat Ranka and Sheryl again (only Freyja is already more tolerable than Ranka). I'd like it better if it was Mirage, not only it parallels SDF but both Freyja and Mirage seem like fun characters.
Anon. Frontier set the bar damn high for a female protagonist in Macross.
>Windmere is a planet. You see it on the map at the start of the episode. It's where the Knights are from. Humanity tried to colonize it. The natives didn't take it too well.
Findamia is a mistranslation of Windmerian. Rogue, anti-colonial elements within the UN fleets provided the Windmerians with the materials and blueprints required to build their own Variable Fighters. The head of the Knights, Keith Aero Windmere, appears to be prince of the nation, fighting for his planet's freedom against what they perceive to be an aggressive alien conglomerate attempting to colonize their planet.
Can anyone confirm?
I was curious as to whether it would be Mikumo instead but all this evidence cements it as being Mirage, especially the credits details. Oh well. Interested to see how the triangle plays out this time.
Mikumo best Walkure and potentially best girl?
Or the Vajra could appear and do their own thing in the background until someone decides to shoot them and end up on the receiving end of the anti-ship cannons on every Vajra unit there.
I've looped it nonstop for literally 6.5 hours now.
>there are people not rooting for the superior Jenius entry
And Mylene doesn't count since she was at the center of the triangle, unless you count Basara as the center and then her love rival would be that mountain.
We need a Macross game where we can dog fight it out anon. When that happens, I'll fight you. I hope you'll live to see that day. I'm counting on this battle in the future.
Well we know the Ace guy is fucking red.
