The dogfights and final scene with Ikenai Borderline were what sealed the deal for me in Delta. A slow start but it all came together, especially with final scene and the brass kicking in. And that's just a prologue, not even the first actual episode. What a treat.

It's like a bizarre mixture of AKB0048, Symphogear and Macross. I'm apprehensive but if it continues like the second half of the preview, I'll have no qualms with it. Throw in the usual Macross tropes and we're good.

I doubt we'll get more AKB0048 but I'm glad Kawamori is using aspects of it in Delta. Preferably not too much of a reliance on it but what we've seen so far is fairly tame.

I liked AKB0048 but the magic-like idol group seems so out of place in Macross.

Songs in Macross are special because they serve to communicate between species using feelings rather than just words (Even if the song has lyrics). That's unique and makes a lot of sense, and helps to set up Kawamori's pacifist message.

Yet the idols' songs in Delta seem to have magical properties, which really ruins what made songs special to the Macross universe, magical songs are something incredibly generic in fiction and they don't help setting up any message, because the magical aspect really takes over the whole "songs used as communication" aspect.

AKB0048 had a magical quality to their songs, but they were not essential to the point the series was trying to make, the idols were. You could argue that maybe Delta will do something different this time around, that it won't be about communication overcoming violence, but after so many Macross series being about that, I somehow doubt it will be about anything else, and so, the magic really seem to undermine the concept.

I'm hoping for awesome dogfights though.

Like mentioned previously, I'm hoping there isn't an overuse of the aspects that made AKB0048 what it was in place for Delta. I mean, we've had stuff like this like in Frontier where they had these pendants that increased fold waves or some shit. 7 was fun but the whole Spiritia thing was bullshit. If Kawamori could've done a whole anime of a hippie standing up against the war by singing his song, he probably would've, but Macross has fights and Spiritia and Song Energy were needed to make fights happen.

No that's exactly what it is. It was one of those early dub practices. They took Macross and two other shows (that aren't as good as Macross) muxed up the footage and the resulting mutant was Robotech. They made spinoffs and such over time but nobody really cares about it anymore and the last thing they made was in 2007. Harmony Gold is just a bitch though
