I fallow new hentai releases closely and I like probably a lot of people have noticed that yaoi and yuri hardly exist in an animated form... where hentai is concerned anyway.
I'm undoubtedly missing a few but my count, places about 13 yaoi hentai and I don't know a single pure yuri hentai (at some point one of the girls magically grows a dick)
So why do you guys think this is?
Two common theories I hear a lot and want to shoot down right away:
1)There isn't enough interest. This is bull shit, literal hours of gay animation is uploaded to the internet ever day by independent animators... just never anything from a hentai studio.
2)The Japanese just don't like homosexuality: again bullshit, the manga industry makes tons of sales on erotic yaoi and yuri every year.
I have some data to add to the discussion my self that might have something to do with it all but I don't have anything concrete. Numer one the Japanese are notoriously prude, I mean they don't even have sex education available in their country and the only reason they ever seem to give for this is "It's awkward to talk about sex" could be why their porn is so strange to start with.
Next higher ups might be puting pressure on the studios to create hentai that conforms to heterosexuality, My data for this is light though, mostly I came to this idea because about 2 or 3 years ago Po-Ju who is a well known hentai manga artist did the directing for a hentai. About 95% of Po-Ju's manga is hardcore shotacon yaoi, he hasn't even made 10 hetero comics as of yet and he has made one other hentai previously that was also a shotacon yaoi but this latest one was exclusively hetro stuff. I wonder if he clearly has a preference for gay shota why did he make a straight hentai? Animation takes about 1000 frames for a minute of screen time, I find it hard to believe a man who has drawn a zillon shota comics and like 4 straight ones decided he wanted to draw 50,000 pictures of straight sex. What do you guys think?

The second theory is the right one.
Straight hentai animations will always be more profitable. Sure there's a market for gay stuff but the amount of straight people in japan still outnumbers the gay.
Manga is a lot cheaper to produce and requires a smaller team (doujins usually consisting of one or two artists) which is why it's in much more abundance than animated.

I agree with this but I still don't think it is the whole picture. From the stand point of a small hentai studio it would make more sense to aim for a niche market, new hentai studios close down all the time because they simply don't make enough sales and can't afford marketing. So wouldn't it make a lot of sense for a smaller studio to offer gay hentai.... they would be the only studio offering something a lot of people want, which would guarantee them the money of the entire gay hentai fan community. Sure they wouldn't make as much money as the huge studios but they would make enough to stay profitable because they are the only game in town.
But instead they spend all their money trying to compete and go bankrupt as a result.
I just find it hard to believe that not one small hentai studio hasn't thought of aiming for the gay market as a strategy.
It's just basic supply and demand, for a big studio it means losing money but for a small studio it would mean guarantee profit because the demand is high and the supply is nonexistent. There is a yaoi/yuri monopoly just waiting to be taken and no studio seems interested.
