I think MacCready is unique.

First, from design. He is the shortest human companion, majority said he is attractive, I also think he is really qt. Nice hat. Rotten teeth.

Second, from background story. He was in Fallout 3, that's huge plus point for who played the game before. He also lost his partner and concerned about his child, same as you.

Third, personality. He joined Gunner and regretted it, which mean he is not a shitty human being that kills people for money even though he still a mercenary. If romanced, he cherish you despite being your personal mercenary before. He is fun companion for chaotic neutral-type player because he likes almost everything you do. Above all, with that face and tough personality, he is Gap Moe.

People saying MacCready is boring but Danse isn't? I love Danse too but get out of here with that nonsense. I've played full playthroughs with both. MacCready hands down has some of the best banter in the game when finding random locations or doing sidequest. He even engages in conversations with civilians around Diamond City and Goodneighbor more.

To sum up Danse from first meeting him to even after blind betrayal

Again I love Danse but you have to admit he's very stale even compared to Preston. MacCready and Deacon are BOTH better as characters. That can't even be denied. There's a reason Danse gets left out when people post companion reactions because I love him to death but all his banter and dialogue is forgettable. Which is a shame because Bethesda gave him a good personal quest but couldn't deliver on it. It's a shame that even after you do Blind Betrayal he still talks about the same BoS garbage.

I'm no fan of any of the vanilla faces to be honest. I'm baffled how anyone can find them hot. The characters drawn by artist look hot yea but in-game none of them are what i'd call hot. They made MacCready look weird, Danse looks like a cartoon and his face, the way it's shaped looks off to me. He always came off to me as a poor man's Kaidan Alenko in-game. He looks like someone's 40 year old dad. Literallybyronic made both Maccready and Danse better with her mod Dashing Danse and Macdreamy. I'm currently running both, the Macdreamy mod is certainly better looking though.

I agree that Maccready's banter is more fun. One minute he's talking like a pirate, the next he's making references to 80s rock ballads, or talking about the cookie isle being crushed. He definately feels that role as a sidekick to anyone roleplaying ass a badass take no prisoners wasteland explorer/survivalist. He doesn't break immersion as much.

Guys it's a Fallout game by BETHESDA. None of the characters are necessarily written well. They all spout the same random strings of dialogue repeatedly all their subplots untimately lead nowhere. Though I will say Cait probably had the most development out of all companions.

Now if this were New Vegas it'd be a different story. Boone alone takes a crap on all companions in Fallout 4.

All vanilla npcs in Fallout 4 are ugly. Only in certain lighting do they look somewhat decent. As stated above the artwork people draw tend to have features and look better than the character models actually do in the game. All the girls look bad. The dudes have weird features. Maccready has eyes too far apart and Danse has the head of a potato. None of them look good in game unmodded. Now this is a sexy Danse. Bethesda need to hire some modders to design their character models next time.

I like both Danse and MacCready model. Probably MacCready a little more because I feel like some actual thought went into his design he has a young/cute/rugged handsome thing going while Danse is more generic male model. Danse kinda looks like a generic npc too in the same way that Piper looks like a generic female npc. She basically is the default wife npc. I mean Danse is basically Maxson with a shorter midface, no scar and a different hairstyle. Maxson is of course the hotter twin.
