Right. There's a reason.
NASA exists because the USA had to compete with Russia, being as they were the originator of all this. The ability to go to "outer space" is obviously a big capability step and makes one appear superior to others who cannot. But if space isn't actually a thing (flat earth), then you have to fake it.. give off the illusion of ability/power. They started it.. we had to respond to also give the illusion that we have the same capabilities.

So while yes they do lie and fake it.. it's for good reason.

Because that'd be expensive business. If NASA lies, the lies are to ensure money is funneled and then only some of it has to go to maintain the illusion. With something like aliens, all this cash would have to be put into maintaining the lie of presence of alien civilization which would defeat the purpose of the scam in the first place.

If anything, NASA would probably have to lie to hide alien presence because while it could provide it with additional funds, it would also put it under quite a strain - in comparison with that keeping it hidden may still result in financing from wealthy and powerful "in the know" while not forcing the agency and its backers to be accountable to the public.
