Solar flare:
a brief eruption of intense high-energy radiation from the sun's surface, associated with sunspots and causing electromagnetic disturbances on the earth, as with radio frequency communications and power line transmissions. (Solar flares are known to cause earth quakes and volcanic eruptions). The amount of energy released is the equivalent of millions of 100-megaton hydrogen bombs exploding at the same time ( depending on it's severity and if it's earth facing that is catastrophic).

A geomagnetic storm is a temporary disturbance of the Earth's magnetosphere. (although, if it is slower it can take up to 3-4 days to reach Earth). The current two X flares (one is 9.3 the other is higher than 11) should reach Earth by Friday/Sat at the earliest and Sunday at the latest based on the observations from satellites and scientists. This will undoubtedly create a large geomagnetic storm wich will interrupt human activities (such as the grid/power structures/satellites and our abilities to predict and monitor storms).

Solar winds will increase and could intensify storms, which is exactly what happened when a X flare registering at about 16 hit Earth and made that year considerably strong for hurricanes/tornados/earthquakes. The last time an X flare hit Earth was a day before the Earthquake in Japan and the resulting tsunami...

We just need to keep a watch out for it. I hope this helped a little bit.
