I'll tell you what. My son was killed in a car wreck and I picked up a severely bad alcoholic drinking habit in behind it. I was hopeless and pissed at God. You have to forget yourself, just do your day to day business and let God do the rest. Be faithful and love Him. It's through loving Hin that we develop the ability to sense the love He has for us, which is always there. You have to do the work though. You said you had addictions, you have to treat these. There are number of ways including working with a priest or pastor (that's how I was released- prayer, confession, real repentance and the sacraments) We are all on different paths but God is the same. Just don't listen to most of the evil people here, evil or worse- they pretend to be evil because they are afraid. So weak. Good luck, God is the answer if you will have faith and love for him. If you are addicted, you don't have these in your life for sure. Work on yourself, let God handle what you can't. And that is most of everything
