The reason a lot of people don't know how to cook is that they probably were never taught. Cracked had an article on this, the short of it is that areas where sex education is poor, obesity is high. The long of it, however, is that because if sex ed is shit somewhere, unprotected sex goes up, which leads to unwanted pregnancies, which leads to single mothers and/or super young families, which are usually kicked out of the house by the parents of said teenagers, which leads to them not learning the proper life skills, such as cooking. The places this happens in are usually poor, rural areas, so the new, young family is double fucked by a poor economy and being forced to start independent family life without the skills and preparations to do so. So not knowing how to cook, fast food seems like the easy option to feed a family, fast food is terrible for you, bad habits start young, them bam, y'all are fat.
