September 23rd, of course!

Actually the Supernova already happened.
It just gotta arrive.
>>19510228
Far enough away we'd just get a pretty light show
>>19510228
Betelgeuse is a red giant. It will expand into a planetary nebula, not explode as a supernova. Now get back to school.

It has already happened but the light hasn't traveled that distance yet.. dumbfag
>>19510228
Lol... well... I did hear from a Navajo shaman that if we got to witness a supernova in our night sky it would mark the end of the trial period and the start if the real ending times for man. But I've been told many things that haven't ever come true

Are you fucking retarded?
>expand into a planetary nebula
what does that even mean?
Betelgeuse is between 5 and 30 times the mass of the sun, it'll probably be the brightest thing in the night sky, and it'll leave a neutron star in it's wake

>It has already happened but the light hasn't traveled that distance yet..
Then how...?

It could have been all a manifestation of the mind while listening to some music last night. So you're best to doubt it.
Saw this on Reddit posted just today:

The blue light from the supernova is something I didn't know of when I posted either this thread or this one:

As for the name: https://youtu.be/cMCfxOkp-Aw

Light travels at a set speed. A lightyear is how far light can travel in a year. Light from 10 lightyears away will take 10 years to reach us. Betelgeuse is 642.5 light years away from us, meaning if we see it going supernova on September 23, the supernova actually happened 642.5 years ago and its light is just now reaching us.
When you look into the night sky, many of the stars you see may actually be "ghosts". They could have died many many years ago but we continue seeing them because that light, or absence of light, hasn't reached us yet.

And if Betelgeuse actually goes supernova on Sept 23, we won't even notice until the year 2669; which makes OP a faggot.

Even the light from the closest star excluding our sun is 4+ years old.
