To give OP the benefit of the doubt, the fibers do seem to be acting strangely. Where did the long thread that connected the two come from in the OP webm?
My money is on static electricity or something as equally mundane, and that long fiber was pulled out of the tuft after connecting via static/microscopic duct tape, or some other third thing.
im not a nerd, how could you neutralize any potential static electricity build up in the sponge?
