The math is 8(miles squared)
or

Which means to take the square root of the distance traveled in miles and then multiply that figure by eight inches.

I think those of us that understand that the earth is a sphere come to these threads because 1) flat earth is hilariously stupid 2) we find it annoying that people are so willfully ignorant as to find a way to "fight the establishment"

Also don't forget to include plate tectonics and seismic earth mapping as to why the earth is a globe. We can add in atmospheric convection cells that follow rotation as well. Coriolis effect, halo-saline cycle of the oceans, and magnostratigraphy are good evidence against flat earth as well.

The main question that no one has yet to answer is; Why would anyone *care* about hiding the flat earth/spherical earth truth? What is there to gain from them saying the Earth is a sphere OR that the Earth is flat? Here's a little proof. If yoy lay down at sunset. facing sunset, then, just as the sun disappears, you can see the sunset again by standing up quickly. In fact, there is a large building so tall that the discrepancy between the top floor's sunset and the bottom floor's sunset is so big that Islam had to make new rules regarding Ramadan for just that building.

The reason this is important is, on a flat earth, the sunset would be uniform regardless of height.

Also, in the same vein, you can see more of the earth by ascending and less by descending. If this is difficult to believe, get into a plane and watch your field of view grow just after takeoff. This would not happen on a flat earth as you would have to ascend at an astronomical rate to increase your field of view.

Assuming that gravity functions by the ascension of earth at 9.8 m/s^2, then earth would reach terminal velocity. Likewise, this would involve birds constantly ascending at a rate of 9.8 m/s^2 just to HOVER. And birds do far more than hover. In fact some birds can fly quite high. I've seen birds upwards of 200-200 feet in the air (60.96-91.44 m). This would take astronomical flight ability to ascend to that height. Not to mention how high planes go...

And, the ultimate question: Motive. What do they have to gain from telling what is, to you, an obvious lie?

I'll admit that I'm biased because I think the idea that there are 3,000 mile high ice walls surrounding us is absurd.

But, let's say that's the truth, okay? Or we at least have reason to think of it as a possibility.

Besides Admiral Byrd, who is EVER going to be the legendary hero to somehow cross past those ice walls? Who is keeping us from doing that? I think it's common at this point that flat earthers say, in reference to the expedition to prove there is a hole at the north pole or something, those people are dissidents/exposing the truth/whatever, and they get abducted or killed off in order to keep the secret.

1. The motive is to disprove religious descriptions of the earth and universe to separate people from god and also from their own higher natures. So it seems if you can prove heliocenrecism and that the earth is rotating on it axis at an angle and that distributions of light/seasons, eclipses, time of air travel between continents and red shift/blue shif of stars are by products of this then you can disprove flat earth, and should be the basis or future arguements in other threads

HOWEVER the main claims flat earthers are going with is 1." Visual Evidence" of photos taken too close to the earths surface to capture the earths curviture, 2. Defaulting arguing about gravity ( which is present in both models ) 3. Claiming no one has travelled to see "muh ice walls" or flown in a straight line over antarctica from say south america to australia,and peope will be killed ny governments of the world if they do so

You would need a stationary observation point that could observe both the sun and the earth simultaneously to properly chart the movement of both bodies. This is simply not possible from a heliocentric OR flat earth model.

In heliocentrism the sun is moving fast as shit through space and pulling the earth with it. There's no way to be stationary and get a proper observation because you would be dragged along by gravity. Geocentricism has NOT been disproven. The entire universe may very well revolve around the earth.

In flat earth you can't get past the dome so gg.

Plus, you can't sit there and say, "The earth could be flat just because I don't have the money to travel it." If you're going to have that mentality, then it would be the same to say, "There's nothing beyond the end of the street because I've never walked that way."

Math and observation and testing of hypothesis has proven the world to be round. Flat earthers usually just deny it because they don't understand it and it doesn't match what they "see". But then again, if you sat down and explained to them everything, showed them how the math works, take them up in a rocket and let them see the world from a far, they'll still argue the earth is flat, just because they're afraid of a reality bigger than they can conceive and don't want to be wrong about what they cling to.
