It's entirely possible that the real-world demands of a child would detract from interactions with a purely mental construct to such a degree that said being would come into harm.

Neglect is always a painful experience. The trick is to be inclusive. If the tulpa is a (secret) companion in the raising of the child then no harm is done.

A tulpa can be revealed to a child after many years into development only with care. There are more pressing concerns to learn and subjects only half-taught can be more dangerous than those left out entirely.
