I really like pic related, as it shows what the actual history of Wicca and neopaganism is, and puts their claims of ancient tradition to critical examination by competent historian research and method. And spoiler
Gerald Gardner is completely full of shit.
It really is a good read to understand what the historical evidence suggest regarding what is mostly thought of as the anglo witchcraft and folk magic traditions, and spirituality (or lack there of) practices in the modern day.
tl:dr Wicca and neopaganism are LARPers when they claim some ancient tradition or link to the past. Any other good historian written books on things /x/ related?

Thanks for the recommendations, I've been in the mood to read new things.
Does anyone know of any older fiction that has some hints of the supernatural? I liked The Turn of the Screw/Wuthering Heights/Blood Meridian so something along those lines.

The Smoky God is a good book.

Melmoth the Wanderer is gothic horror, and very long-winded in details but it sets the tone of the unpleasant atmosphere. You can feel dread build in the characters.
