Gnosticism is not a religion. Gnosticism is any sort of personal introspection that takes into account a spiritual element to this world we live in.
Many who do not want to introspect, for fear they will have to shun practices or products that leave them numb and "sinful" to their spiritual path, love to skip over the meaning of Gnosticism. They jump straight to alchemical texts and paintings and zodiac charts and all sorts of things to turn people away from a religion that was once a common stairway to waking up to what the world truly is. No one mentions how alchemy (turning some ignorant lead into pure, enlightened gold) is a metaphor for spiritual awakening. No one mentions the prevalence of astronomical happenings and their effects on humanity.
You will only hear talk of mages that never existed: who actually wielded power over their realities because they recognized the code of reality enough to hack it (see OP pic.) You will only hear talk of a pissed-off demiurge meant to distract and devour the masses: not recognizing the demiurge is a metaphor for all of physical reality, which has been distracting and devouring those who shun Introspection since the beginning of our era.
