it's basically a window that reflects your world.
clever things that are incredibly strong in illusion and don't have any physical presence can slip in.
It's only really a problem at night, and only then if creepy shit is happening/you're drawing supernatural attention to yourself. Protective sigils on the glass work if you know how to use them, and even then the fact that you HAVE a sigil on it may draw things in for a look.
Staring at the mirror, taking hard drugs and trying to summon things is a really, really, bad idea.

I did exactly that man.

Smoked DMT but fucked up the rips and only got 20% DMT high. Then I proceeded to turn off the lights of my bathroom and I tried to evoke Astaroth with His/Her sigil with no circle and no name (didn't want to piss Him/Her with the bounded sigil)

To be completely honest, I did saw a faint and very, very gloomy aura above me, got scared but kept going and in the end nothing really happened.

Did I fucked up?

The ancients believed that mirrors were paranormal in nature and could see/be portals to other worlds. More modern myths such as "Bloody Mary" are based off these legends.

The cause may simply be it is unnatural to see ourselves (especially animated) so we feel strange, or something truly paranormal.

My face became two opposing sides that were expanses of a centerline, and both reflected each other. I saw my skull through the skin and the skin looked like a texture map on a 3D model. I peered into my 3rd eye and my face became the face of jesus attached.
