how do you think that the incredibly powerful yet ultimately uncaring universe and the things that live in and around said universe has effected the human psychology?
humans are relatively weak when you get down to it. even when compared to other common animals found on earth. the fact that we are comparatively weaker than most other things on this planet has been known since the dawn of civilization, and probably earlier than that.
