Just saw a strange object in the sky, It was 50 mins ago (21:50 UK time), and it was looking north west from Scarborough. The object was possibly triangular in shape and changed colour from White to light blue to light green to reddish. It looked like it had a curved smoke trail/tail which dissipated before the object faded away. The object and tail didn't move, it was just there for approximately 20 seconds and then slowly dissappeared. Attached is a crude sketch for me to Base a better one on tomorrow to send to MUFON. Has anyone else seen this or something similar? And yes I know it's the Perseids meteor showers this weekend, but as an amateur astronomer I can tell you it was no meteor and I've never seen anything like this.

My dad grew up in Scarborough and swears he saw a UFO over the ocean back in the 70s. I can't remember the exact details but he was at Oliver's Mount with a bunch of other people when a some lights appeared from somewhere, I think maybe from behind them over the land. They flew around a load changing colours and turning too fast for conventional aircraft. Then they all coalesced into a single bright light before shooting off, either up into the sky or down into the sea, I'm not sure which.

There is some strange sights and sounds from the sky here in Scarborough, I believe that your father and friends are telling the truth.
We also get a lots of jets performing strange manoeuvres out at sea here. Did you hear about eurofighters scrambling to USO coming out of the North Sea? The eurofighters got into trouble as they went supersonic over land. This was last summer.
