Hypothetically if I were falsely accused I would certainly want it cleared from my record too. That is the sort of thing that haunts you for the rest of your life. Even if you are perfectly innocent the assumption is always there.

Again hypothetically if an innocent person were investigation the accusation must come from somewhere. It seems horrific but false reports happen all the time. Whether for political purposes, revenge against an ex spouse, or simply blaming the wrong person for a crime that did happen.
