A 14-year-old girl was shot and killed Monday night by another juvenile. Kings County Sheriff's Department officials said they believe the shooting was accidental.

According to sheriff's officials, deputies responded to a shooting call placed at 9:43 p.m. and arrived at an outbuilding located on the 12000 block of Iona Avenue at 9:49 p.m.

Apparently, a 14-year-old and a 9-year-old were in an incident where a rifle was discharged and the 14-year-old was killed in the process. Kings County Fire Department call reports indicate the victim was shot in the head.

Officials refused to release the names of the two girls.

Assistant Sheriff Allan McClain said at press time this morning the shooting appeared to be accidental.

"But, until the investigation is complete, I can't give a definitive answer on whether or not it was accidental," McClain said. "From preliminary statements, something was going on out there that made the girls nervous and scared, which is what precipitated the shooting."
