It sounds like it hunts humans as prey by luring them outside with scratching. It probably counts on people just not believing what they see when they see it, if they do happen to see it.

I mean honestly if you thought you saw something like that outside, you'd probably end up just convincing yourself you're retarded and you couldn't have just seen a huge fucking stick insect predator monster and you'd go outside to see what the scratching was never to be heard from again.

The way it hunts it's probably got some sort of ambush set up for you as you come outside. If you can get it to ambush a decoy or come up with a foolproof way to dodge the ambush you should get a good shot at the creature. But make sure you have a back up weapon or two and an good escape route. I would think if you confront this thing and it doesn't have it's hunting advantage its instinct would be to flee, but you never know.

Houses close to woods and/or water often have a pest problem of some description, that can generate "scary" sounds:

Depending on how the roof of the house is constructed, moths might be likely to find nooks and crannys to nest. When they get active at night, they might collide with objects when flying around...
With some roof types, it can sound like large creatures walking and crawling around on the roof.

mice and other animals (esp. hedgehogs, shews, badgers, skunks etc) are very likely to gather under the house, terraces and patios. Again, sounds like random scratchng is normal in that case.

Make sure that branches on surrounfing trees are cut,and don't scratch against the house in windu conditions
