I don't mean it's bad because of lack of nudity or gore. It's bad because it's written terribly, it's shot very poorly, the acting is terrible (even for the 80's) and jason keeps coming back alive, but we don't even know if he died in the first place. But he actually really died when tommy killed him? But then he got shocked back to life some how? But did he ever really die? But then he got corroded into nothing when he went to new york but then came back after? The only good part of the movie is the twist of the first one

First one was good. Everything after was unbearable.

Back then, villains like Jason and Michael Myers were popular because their movies were bloody and fun. Nowadays, we see them one of four ways.
A. See these movies and like them because nostalgia.
B. Get off to them and need a therapist.
C. Don't like them because the movies are bullshit. "Aw, what. they didn't kill him for realsies? That's stupid, I thought he was supposed to a normal human, not Superman!"
D. Don't like them because the characters are shitty. This goes for the killers and the victims, btw.

Years ago I thought the same. Now, I find half the of the Nostomo crew annoying as hell. XO Kane: I don't know what this sexualized egg thingy is, but fugg it. Lemme stick my snout into it. Ground breaking film but it falls for the same weak tropes as lesser films. The sequel destroys it. I love the third and fourth films as well.
Overrated would be most modern horror films. Weak film scores. Cheap scares. Every rip off Exorcist spider walk gets worse, no matter the advances in CGI. How did we even get to torture porn? How was the aspect of psychological terror lost? The original Twilight Zone managed so much with limited production means and in a little over 20 minutes per episode. Modern hacks need to study that series to get some kind of clue.

I feel like saw led to torture porn but I love the first. That's another series that forgot where it came from. The first wasn't actually about the people getting fucked up in traps. The rest were.

I like twilight zone as well, the small budget helped utilize the creepy atmosphere which seems to have been lost in a lot of modern movies

It's not overrated. Every film in the franchise is horrible.
Part 1: Nice twist, but you have to wallow thru 90 minutes of a shitty film to reach it
Part 2: Cash-in sequel. Weakest horror sequel since Halloween 2
Part 3: The 3-D effects and direction make it the best IMO, but still just another slasher flick, but at least they tried to close the story in a realistic fashion
Part 4: Another cash-in sequel only redeemed by gorehounds who suck Tom Savini's balls.
Part 5: Horrible Scooby Doo sequel
Part 6: 2nd best next to Part 3, but the comedy was lame, looked like a shitty TV-movie
Part 7: Carrie vs. Jason at the end was kinda cool but you have to wallow through more of the usual slice and dice to get there
Part 8: Jason kills on a boat and in Manhattan, big fucking whoopty-doo
Part 9: Jason Goes to Hell. Not bad, an actual precursor to Freddy vs. Jason but only real horrorfags could appreciate it
Part 10: Jason X: Jason in space, gimme a fucking break now
Part 11: Freddy vs. Jason. Tries to be funny like Part 6 and actually is a tad bit funnier, the gore would please fans, but again we have to wallow through a bunch of slasher shit to see Freddy and Jason get down.

I agree about saw, it should've either ended at 1 or had a sequel to tie up loose ends that focused more on the thriller aspect rather than gruesome deaths. Not that I dont enjoy the rest of them for what they are, Ive seen every SAW in theatres because theyre still fun movies, except VII.

I have to say either saw or child's play. Both should have stopped after the first one .

The Sleepaway Camp franchise was basically a rip-off of the Friday series and just as bad if not worse.

Romero's "Living Dead" trilogy was the best franchise. Night of the Living Dead was good. Dawn of the Dead was even better. Day of the Dead and Land of the Dead were okay, but far from terrible.

I don't even know what the fuck the Alien franchise is anymore.

yeah, op here. I think that's why it's so bad. it was just a cash grab that the studio never actually cared about. But for the most part you guys are right. Just supposed to a "fun" slasher movie. my issue with this is that all other slashers from the era were actually well written shot and acted. But sleepaway camp is self aware and literally meant to be a fun comedic horror movie. kinda like sharknado or something. And it isn't considered one of the great horror franchises. Personally I like the first sleepaway camp. And for the time when you put it in context the twist was pretty mind blowing.

I personally dislike them but I think slashers are SUPPOSED to be shallow, mindless entertainment. Their cheesiness and predictability is part of the genre.

True fans of this series just want to see Jason smashing a bunch of stupid horny 30 years old teen stoners in the most violent and hilarious ways, And let the less stupid (And virgin, perhaps) characters to escape from Jason or defeat him in someway, nothing else.
