I'm trying to find a way to avoid psychological demoralization given how gloomy the future looks.

One way is through religion. But I am not a follower of any organized religion.

What should I do?

God ought to be able to intervene freely in any number of ways. Time travelers only have a finite number of ways to influence things, which would be a far more logical explanation for "mysterious ways" than any celestial deity ever was.
