this position

Thats all shit that ultimately doesnt matter. if you are having trouble projecting it is your frame of mind that needs work.
people accidently AP in their sleep all the time, so blanket or no, blue or red pants, it doesnt matter.
you need to relax your mind and body as much as possible without falling truly asleep

missionary

More often than not, this is the optimal position. Im one who sleeps stomach down or on my side but if i ever manage to fall asleep on my back i get a more vivid dream..
I got some kind of experience on my side/back, so position is not everything.

The Four Astral Projecting Positions.
In the increasingly complex world of astral projection, there remain only four different projection positions. They are flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead. The flat position is by far the easiest and most efficient, while the overhead is the most difficult.

The position where you realize AP isn't a thing and people are simply misunderstanding lucid dreaming.
Meaning flat on your back, arms either at your sides or folded on your chest.
The easiest method of induction for beginners is FILD:
