Some people claim that our reality is like that movie "Dark City". Our entire reality and memories can be altered on a whim. If that were true then for all intents and purposes "you" (the "you" you believe you are) was born this morning, and the world we live in was made (fresh) this morning as well.
It's crazy as shit, but what if the world resets every 50 or 100 years (historically and technologically). If that were true then everything remembered from before the reset would just be an illusion.
