Who would /x/ pick and why?
Junji, for his nightmarish illustrations
Junji Ito has better pacing.
Lovecraft is too old english. Junji Ito cause Junji Ito
>>19311266
someone from /vg/ is making a junji ito game
What? No love for Lovecraft?
I'm really into the antique, dry and dusty feel of his works. Only downside is that his stuff is becoming too popular and inspires countless z-grade rip-offs
>>19311266
Lovecraft. Ito relies too much on body horror.
How disgusting.
>>19311404
I think the beta is out already. Search for horror games on itch io and you should stumble upon it. Sorry I can't remember the name of the game at the moment
>>19311266
Lovecraft horror comes from the alien and the unknown, from showing us just how small and pathetic we truly are.
Ito's horror comes from the mundane, from turning the everyday tensions of life into surreal exagerrations.
Lovecraft embeds fear that you will be swallowed by cosmic indifference. Ito embeds fear that you will be irrevocably changed by societal indifference.
Which is better will depend on what flavor of fear is your preference. And if you prefer looking at pictures.
Big fan of both, but Lovecraft is definitely the more influential and better one, even though his work is kind of old and contains plenty old words, which are hard to understand if you are not a native speaker
>>19311266
Ito FTW. HP is fucking edgy asslord with a disfiguration fetish. Junji has set the bar for this new kind of horrific kafka-esque graphic novel genre.
>>19311444
DUBS TRIPS CZEKT
extra points for my recurring numbers: 143
Like in a fight?
I prefer Ito for his art, his ability to turn the mundane into something eerie, and weird plot ideas in general
he's not that good with endings though, bully probably has my favourite one
h.p love craft
I wish their was a high budget HBO serie about lovecraft mytologies and monsters

That's like asking "Jack Kirby vs Frank Herbert"
These are two completely different people
Not even comparable.
I wouldn't really compare them. On surface level there are some similarities, but Lovecraft's work was fundementally about the horrors of living in a cold godless universe where all is chaos and there's no higher power looking out for you. Ito's work is pure surrealism for the most part, usually coupled with a quirky sense of humour.
>>19312484
Pretty much this. They're not quite comparable imo.
If I had to choose I'd say Ito since Lovecraft's writing is pretty damn dated. You kinda have to make an effort to to put yourself in the era while you're reading his work.
>>19312057
good good
>>19311266
Not comparable
But lovecraft's fans sicken me to death kek
They are both different and they are both masters.
I can relate to Ito more because of my age and time though but it has nothing to do with the art itself so comparing would n't make much sense
Clive Barker
In terms of who I personally enjoy more? Ito, definitely. He utilizes the format of a manga to his advantage, and it's quite avant garde the specific way I've seen it utilized. He's created a book about swirls for fuck's sake.
However, Lovecraft was the man who initially coined the "brain in a jar" trope if I remember right, correct me here if I'm wrong anons, and he's also paved the way for a lot of cosmic horror authors.
I like to think both of these writers embrace the fear of the unknown through their works, and I'm afraid that a lot of Lovecraft's works fall flat in a lot of their mission to make the reader utterly terrified due to either how dated the language is, or the fact that the descriptions aren't terrifying enough.
I like both of them for what they've managed to do, but my bias is to Ito, despite him not being the first I read out of these authors.
>>19311266
Ito is generally better at horror and turning the normal things of everyday life into an eerie fest. Lovecraft is definitely the better wordsmith who's responsible for creating an entire genre named after him. I gotta give it to Lovecraft. WAYYYY ahead of his time.
>>19312057
Very beautifully worded my friend.
>>19311266
Junji... duh
Lovecraft intentionally tried to write complicated so he would seem smart, he was really an idiot that was super racist...
>>19311266
Ito. While it's not always scary despite its best intentions, it is always weird, surreal, and makes me wut in a way that no other printed work does.
junki ito
I love both, and now I'm afraid of everything.
Lovecraft is shit.
Period.
Junji is ok. His art is good but his endings are many times lacking
>>19311266
H.P Lovecraft and it's not a would pick but a must
>>19313841
Shut the fuck up nerd. "He said nigger in the 20th century hurr durr I'm a fucking left winging SJW". Eat shit.
>>19313984
Oddly enough HP Lovecraft was married to a Jew and didn't care for Hitler.
>>19311266
berserk's mangaka is better than either desu

I have a question:
Do you ever borrow from dreams? If so, have you ever made something close to 100% like it was in your dream?
>>19311398
Kojima was going to make a game with him before he got dicked by Konami.
>>19312057
qft
although I'd like to add that Lovecraft kinda just got silly with it later on
>>19311266
All day.
>>19316150
Go back to /v/ and stay there. Kojima is shit
>>19315729
just downloaded it , thanks for this ambition, based anon
>>19312454
This, one is an artist/writer the other is just a writer. And they are both from vastly different backgrounds.
You could even argue ito has lovecraftian influence.
And why not both?
>>19313422
My nigga
>>19316494
Barker is good. John Saul does better ghost stories.
>>19315676
Well calling someone racist in the 20th century by contemporary standards is pretty pointless. Especially if it doesn't really impede the majority of his vast works so it's basically irrelevant shit here unless you can mention where it is actually relevant outside of one particular story which has nothing to do with the body of work that made him famous.
>>19315762
well, I had a dream about a man hidden in a lenticular cloud so there you go
>>19315676
Evaluating an author's work by shouting "DAS RACISS!!!" makes you a MUCH bigger idiot than you believe Lovecraft was. Right or left has little to do with it.
>>19317086
what do you use to draw like that/animate stuff?
>>19311266
Uno Moralez
>>19312356
>edgy asslord
It's like you never read any Lovecraft.
Don't get into an "Xbox vs PS" mindset. Both are great.
HP Lovecraft
>>19315676
Saying n*gger in the 20th century is like using "gay" or "fag" as an insult in the 1990-00s. Times change. Who knows what we're saying now that will be offensive in the future?
Classic Leftist. No actual arguments. Just buzzwords.
>Racist!
>Sexist!
>Ablist!
>Transphobic!
>Islamophobic!
History will laugh on your ideology, desu famalam
>>19311266
HP Lovecraft. Junji Ito makes great shit but his impact on the horror genre is super minimal. Lovecraft is incredibly important to the culture of horror.
What's your favorite Ito story?
>>19313841
Waciiiiiism!!!
>>19316321
>Kojima is shit
Fuck you and your shitty taste fgt.
>>19316150
