The fact that every 13,000 years for the last 65,000 years there has been a mass extinction event. These events seem to have been caused be comet impacts. The last one happened 12,950 or so years ago.

We're also overdue for a big solar storm. The last one destroyed most telegraph lines and caused many to combust.

There are probably half a dozen or so other good examples that I could come up with.
