The Asteroid belt is all that remains of Tiamat.

Our moon used to be a moon of Tiamat. It was called Kingu. But when Tiamat was destoryed part of it went closer to the sun and merged with the proto earth Theia.

Each year in the old world they had a Festival to commemorate Marduks Victory over Tiamat.
