Re-occurring dreams

I've been having a re-occurring dream frequently for the past few months. Or rather, the dreams have the same setting, start and ending, but the content differs.

It begins with me waking up in what seems to be my own bed. I can partly control my body, like looking around and sometimes I can control my hands, but it seems to mostly run on autopilot. I usually look at the alarm clock to see what time it is (usually about 2 or 3 in the morning) and then do something minor and trivial like go relieve myself, have something to drink or go stand on my balcony for a bit. At some point I wake up, back in my bed. However in these dreams my apartment is slightly different than it is in real life. The alarm clock looks more expensive, there's generally nicer furniture, dream--me has a microwave oven, and one of my bookcases are missing. Also, whenever my dream takes me out on the balcony, a familiar female voice talks to me from behind and ask if I "had that dream where you wake up alone again" but I never managed to see the source before waking up. (I am alone, haven't had a girlfriend for years)
A few days ago, I got an idea where I've head the female voice before (albeit slightly different), and I think I've identified the voice as belonging to a girl I went to highschool with. I had a crush on her but she had a boyfriend who I knew well so out of respect for him I kept it to myself. Final year of highschool he cheated on her, they broke up and she hanged herself not long thereafter.


My question to /x/ is this: Does anyone have an idea as to why I have these dreams?
