There is the folktale of ink monkeys used in ancient China. They were very small primates that were easily trained to prepare the ink that the philosophers, emperors, etc. would use to write. The monkeys were easily kept alive because they fed off the ink so whenever the individual was done writing the monkey would consume all the ink that was left.

That's actually pretty cool. Have there been people that claimed to have seen them? Are they like homonculi in that you have to make them or do you have to go out in the wild to find them?

My grandma told me her grandma would scare her and her siblings with stories about "el mano negro", a giant black hand that would reach through the window to steal misbehaving children away. It turned out later that she told the story because half of the kids in her village in Spain disappeared over night, and their parents swore they saw a giant hand with a seemingly endless arm pull them away.
