Has anybody else died in a dream to wake up?

I was shot in the head at least once. It seemed like there was a "war" going on. And civilians were killed. Some fuckers flew down my house, rooftop gone and shot me with a rifle in the head. That's the most vivid death in dreams i remember.

Once had a four times layered dream with a death at the end of each leading into the next. Sound lingered after I finally woke too so I kept waiting for the new hammer to drop.

It's actually not uncommon for me to die in some kind of iron/bronze age battle in my dreams. It's actually happened before where I died repeatedly and it was not pleasant.

I was shot in the head by John McCain once.

Once I was on a riding mower, which I managed to roll over me and woke up on my friend's couch laughing hysterically. I kind of think that one was real, to be honest.

One time I dreamt I had just died in a car accident and it was all about the aftermath and how sad my family was. I didn't actually dream about the part where I died, but that was pretty upsetting.

There have been more. I get killed in my dreams fairly often, come to think of it.

In most of my dreams I die. I should say 99% of my dreams are nightmares. One that really sticks with me is when I was in elementary school. At the end of this nightmare a dinosaur bit my back to eat me and I woke up with intense back pain. Now when I think of it, maybe I had back pain while sleeping and it affected my nightmare. But I could feel the "chomp." it was frightening. In another nightmare I exploded, when I woke I felt a sting all over my body.

in my late teens I had a very vivid dream that I'd been kidnapped by a man with a very distinguished American accent. I'd woken up inside what was his library or study. A rather large room with lots of loosely alphabetized and very old books, which I could smell distinctly. I remember red carpeting and I was also tied with a rough rope into an old, red wingback chair, which was placed in the center of the room.
The man entered through double wooden doors which had carvings and intricately cut glass windows in them. He was carrying a shotgun he paced around the wood somewhat nervously for a few minutes, then walked towards me briskly and was saying,"I'm sorry, I have to do this. I have to kill you." He rajised the barrel to my face and I saw a flash of light. I didn't hear anything. There was just silence. I felt my head jerk back with a massive force and at once there was nothing. I could feel that I had no head. what I guess is my astral dream body began to float away and I thought, "this is it, this is what it's like to die. I'm really dead." Then I panicked and woke up.

It fucked me up for about 5-6 days.

Yes, but I've lucid dreamed so much dying in my dreams no longer wakes me up. Which has led to some crazy dreams like being beheaded then watching my body flail around.

I have a lot of dreams where I am being chased by people and have to fight them off, or even when I am being chased and am defenseless. For example, I have had to kill people with my own hands in dreams because they were chasing me, or flee my job when someone showed up with a rifle to shoot up the place and murder me specifically.

For some reason I have never actually died, and my brain switches me to a new location so fast I don't have time to die.

Last night I dreamed I was in Thailand and about to be eaten by a pack of Komodo dragons. (I don't think any komodos live in Thailand). Just as they closed in on me I was transported, to swinging on a rope vine across a great chasm, and when I hit the side of the cliff and began to fall I was again transported somewhere else.

So many dangerous situations, but I never die. Anyone else get this?

Someone broke into my house while I was watching tv with my brothers (this was when I was a kid) through the back patio and shot me. I was on the floor and my eyes were open as I watched the killer go from room to room making sure everyone was dead. I woke up and a few seconds later the metal pole from the bathroom in my room fell down and made a loud sound and that was the final nail in the coffin for my heart.

Scared the shit out of me and felt really real.

I remember an extremely vivid dream where I was riding a bike across a rickety wooden bridge and the bridge snapped and i started to fall. I remember feeling the sense of fear and dread. I could feel the wind going across my body and as soon as I hit the ground I woke up to my heart racing and I was in a sweat. I've had a few others but I remember that was the first.

It's kinda fucked up but I never wake up immediately after I die in my dreams, one time, I was shot at a theme park and I saw my body hit the ground and was walking around trying to get everybodies attention but no one noticed me like I was a ghost. another time I was shot in the temple at point blank execution style. a swear for a split second I could feel the pressure and heat and even hear the gun shot but then just laid on the ground and I could only stare in one direction. I couldn't move or breathe or make a noise, just like two seconds of experiencing everything.. I hate my dreams they are so vivid and real, reality checks don't work. i used to die in literally every dream i had for about two years as a teenager. even a wet dream. i'd cum and her bf would walk in and beat me to death and i'd always wake at the point of death. constantly. every night i'd die in a new way. eventually i got into weed and now i dont dream, thank fuck.

Had a dream I was shopping with my wife and some asshole tried to rob the store. I tried to stop him and we fought for a while I was winning but I let go of his wrist for a second and he shot me in the chest. I bled out in the store. then as a ghost I tried to get my wife to notice I was there but I couldn't. Actually made me cry trying to tell her im sorry and I love her but she couldn't hear me.

I had a vivid dream about getting into an elevator with my little brother, I immediately had a bad feeling about it but I went in anyway, and the fucking thing calmly shuts its doors before it falls. I felt like my guts were coming up to my chest before I woke up.

I had a different dream a couple of weeks before that where I was sitting around and having dinner with some people at a nice restaurant, the restaurant is on the end of a long pier over the ocean, and I can see that the weather outside is very dark and stormy. Out of nowhere, the restaurant collapses into the ocean, the water doesn't rush in, but I can hear everybody around me screaming and it becomes pitch black as we descend into the darkness.

I already had a phobia of the ocean, now I'm scared of fucking elevators too.

I had a dream once where I was in a van like those white panel vans and me and my dad had gotten kid napped and they threatened to kill me if my dad didn't release some kind of information and he didn't so they shot em in the head but I didn't wake up I felt my body go limp and for some reason I remember the sun shining in my face and I couldn't move but I could hear the conversation that my Dream dad was having with the kid mappers . And then I woke up and had to go to work at 5Am .. woke up from one nightmare just to go into another .

I was driving on a long, drawn out bridge with no seeming end in sight. It was foggy, I could only see a little bit in front of me while driving with the car lights on. The further I drove, the more this sense of dread crept upon me. My breathing became erratic, my entire being felt consumed by this intrinsic fear as I kept going forward and forward. I couldn't stop though, I didn't feel compelled to stop at all despite the horrific sensation overcoming me. Then before I knew it I reached the end I guess, it was straight down. The car fell down and I free fell to the depths below. I woke up after that.

Left me feeling very uneasy and thankful in a way to feel such things.

I've died in multiple dreams, sometimes its my own doing sometimes i'm murdered. Most of the time my dreams keep going from like a third person view, like a movie or something. It's really weird and I have no idea why this happens or how it works but I'd like it to stop.

Right on! This is my first reply to a thread about dreams since my time back on /x/. Anyways this is actually a really common phenomena though, I haven't done any reading on why that is. When I was a frequent user of cannabis my drems got a lot grungier and dark in style and i'd die pretty often. In these dreams there'd be a weird overarching ark and yellow color scheme. It was sorta like an impressionist film. I'd always be killed rather than falling, though the falling dream (which is another common one) happened a lot to me when I was young. The most interesting experience I had of death in a dream, was not waking up right away. Man this is my favorite topic and I could go on, but imma cut this post off. To any lurkers, I love dream discussion and like to offer amateur interpretations of them.

I had nightmares every single night until I was about 13, died many ways, eaten by wolves, killed by demons, thrown off buildings, stabbed to death etc. It was terrifying, I hated to go to sleep, I tried to stay up as late as possible because I was so scared of falling asleep. But at the moment of death I would always wake up. Then one day I just stopped dreaming altogether for about 10 years. For years I had assumed all dreams were nightmares, I didn't know "normal" dreams were a thing other people experienced. I found out later my nightmares were a result of extreme child abuse. After being removed from my family I eventually recovered. And though I don't dream often, I do have a dream once every few months, and sometimes it's not even a nightmare. But I still remember those nightmares I had as a child... the pain seemed so real!

The one positive thing was I ended up reading lots of books to try to stay awake and I learned a lot at a young age, so I have that going for me which is nice I guess.

I'm glad everyone's shared their personal experiences, because it was interesting and all.. But when asked if people died in their dreams to wake up, I was curious if people used it as a failsafe. When I was a kid and had nightmares, I was always just lucid enough to know if I found a cliff and jumped, I'd wake up. I haven't been able to escape like that anymore, unfortunately.

My mom attempted suicide twice, once with a kitchen knife. A few months after it happened I had a dream she entered my room at night, woke me up by asking me "Are you okay?" and then stabbing me in the chest before I could reply. Woke up in a panic. I always sleep with my door locked now.

Oooh I agree I agree. Well I feel like the topic you just clarified is way more interesting. In my own mileage I tend to stick around for the ride, because as an insomniac i'll take any sleep I get, and as a dream lover I tend to hang on to wherever my mind is going for dear life. Dreams, good or bad, are just neat to me. But as a kid if I had a sream I didn't like and knew I was dreaming, I'd just kinda brute force myself awake. I remember once when I was really young I was about to be hit by a car that was chasing me in a dream. So instead of doing that I kinda tried to will my waking body into waking up. It was so weird, cus at the same time as feeling associated with where I was and what I was doing in the dream, I on top of that could feel myself thrashing and trying to open my eyes (which I could NOT open for some reason) a parent woke me and das it.

Had a dream where I was crying and shot myself in the head with a pistol. Most vivid dream I've experienced, though I haven't had a suicidal thought in years and have vowed to never buy a gun for that exact reason.

I don't remember the entire dream, but I remember how I died. There was this huge guy, he looked like the genie from Aladdin except he was red and was a flesh and blood being with legs instead of being made of smoke. He gave me a hug and then cut me in half with some sort of blade.

Once it was a lost bullet while i was in the passenger seat with friends, the other while i was handling a gun and it went off hitting me in the head. Whats most scary is how both times i felt my body go limp and i start to talk to myself saying shit like try not breathe, don't panic, I cant move. Its fucking scary man makes me wonder

I remember i had a nightmare where i had a bigass hole in the back of my head, and my brain was exposed, i could feel it touching my skull while i was walking around and it felt like brain freeze, suddenly i felt it jump out of my skull and saw it land on my hands, when i realized what was going on everything faded to black and i knew i had died, then i remember becoming lucid again, still with my brain in my hands, suddenly i saw my father bolt through the door and say "I TOLD YOU SO" and then i woke up

Had a dream where my parents were beating me with hammers. Was about 10 years old at the time. Woke up as one went right for my eyes.

Other time was around 13, when I dreamt a girl from my school was bound in a chair by leather straps. She exclaimed she was "so hungry" while shaking violently, before tearing her arm from one of the straps and ripping flesh with her teeth. Zombie-esque setting. She broke free after a moment, screaming and pounced towards me. Jaw seemed to unhinge, mouth grew large as she came closer, taking up my view. I assume that's good enough to count as death? Idk.

When I was a kid I would kill myself to wake up during a bad dream, usually by jumping off a cliff.

I did when I was a kid, I don't recall having this for a long time.
It was mostly falling off a cliff or getting caught by deadly threat

I was about 17 when I died in a dream. I was fighting in a war in what seemed like a desert type area. I was inside of a garage shooting enemy soldiers trying to come in. I was defending something but I don't know what. Suddenly one of them throws a grenade inside and the blast kills me. Everything starts to go dark and I can't move at all.
I remember thinking to myself "Shit... so this is death..."
it fucked me up for quite some time. In fact sometimes now I think I'm still destined to die in a war.
