Newfag here (inb4 lurkmoarfaget)- unrelated those videos, but I think there is something to the mass triggering theory. I've started noticing general patterns in my own behavior that start appearing shortly before the big-news domestic attacks- specifically they relate to reduced empathy, heightened compulsive activity, and reduced impulse control. Without beating around the bush: I'm not usually a fan of porn or jacking my dick. It's not a moral thing, I've just reached the age where the disappointment afterwards doesn't balance out the pleasure during, so I've cut way back. I'm only speaking for myself and what I've noticed with me and my friends, so I don't know how true this is for everyone. I think the widespread nostalgia comes from a couple sources. First off is we were a generation raised by popular culture. My parents (and the same with my friends as a kid) were always working to try and support us, so I was left home alone a lot. There was an upswing in missing kids on the news, so I was always told to come straight home from school and just watch TV until they were done work. I've noticed that was especially true for children who had divorced parents (of which there were a ton of). So stuff like TV and video games sadly become like a friend or a family member, so when you think back on those things you get a warm memory like you're remembering a childhood friend.

Another reason is because to those 80s/90s kids, the future looked so bright and they were promised the moon. Then they grew up and found that the world is in a shitty state, and a lot of them most likely wouldn't be able to attain the stuff that their parents were able to get so easily. A stable job, a house, a family. Couple that with the fact that every time you stick your head out the window, you're confronted with doom and gloom, and you get a pretty demoralized generation. So they think back to the last time they were happy and they try to recapture those memories, filling the void in their life with nostalgia.

I'm not sure if there was any programing like what we're seeing in this thread, but there definitely was some programing at hand. Look at the insane amount of brand loyalty people have today, for no other reason than it's something they enjoyed when they were a kid. You can also definitely see the seeds of what would becomes today's social justice warriors being sown in stuff from the 90s.

I have an idea to fix this(or at least patch it). Have YouTube require a captcha before being able to watch a video. And turn auto play off. Many of these videos have dozens of millions of views and many of the comments are obviously bot-spammed.
