What makes space so scary?
Space is full of dust.
>>19160863
the same thing that makes anything else scary: the unknown
>>19160863
The mind boggling distances...
>>19160863
that no one can hear you scream
the risk of infectious disease and the fact that there is no oxygen
makes you remember
>>19160872
Sometimes the known can be even more frightening. Like when you come home from coaching girls' softball and your wife is drunk and looking for a human punching bag to take her anger out on.
>>19160863
the two possibilities
>we are completely alone in the universe
>there are other beings out there making us unimportant vermin
but noone can decide which is more terrifying
>>19160863
The fact that there's more emptiness than matter in it. Also the incomprehensible distances.
Space is scary because it's fake af.
>>19160863
It's the final frontier
The ratio between emptiness and matter.
>>19160863
it is literally nothing yet everything at the same time in an area larger than you can ever imagine

What does space has to do with infectious disease?
>>19161527
Nigga you're fake af
The fact that we are not alone in the universe and our neighbors are better equipped to knock us off the top of the food chain is a good reason. A ton of movies have been launched with that premise.
>>19161704
Nigga you serious

for me its the fact that these huge celestial bodies are just floating out there.. like i have dreams of crashing into a sun with a spaceship its a horrible thought somehow.. to just be floating in front of this gigantic orb in a sea of nothingness like this scene at 7:14
https://youtu.be/wzzKFvu3mXA?t=7m14s
theres a huge existential dread when i think about this. if i would experience vid related irl my brain would explode from shock
his emptiness but at the same time is full of shit happening
>>19160901
Hot
>>19160863
I would like to say its the fear that we are not alone but i think its the fear that we might be alone because we have looked far very far and have not found anything yet. That right there is fucking terrifying.
>>19161418
god damn and imagine how little loss of momentum you would need to get lobbed in the worst possible direction
>>19160863
space isnt scary its beautiful i mean who could be scared of this?
<---
>we are made of stardust
>tfw stars are made of human flesh
>>19160863
Tbh, space is fascinating, the deep sea is the true horror
>>19160863
I have a hard time with space games, but it's not because space is scary. It's because space makes me afraid of gravity. As long as I'm in space, I fear gravity.
>>19163083
This, but they are both fascinating. I'll be afraid of space when we find something in there, or something in there finds us.
the unfathomably large supervoids
>>19162239
Why is space purple and blue and shit. I thought it was full black
>>19162239
People who are afraid of falling. As above, so below.
>>19160863
because the Universe is set up like a giant prison, with each star so far apart from its neighbor that the two civilizations can never meet.
we are in Space Jail and the laws of Physics are the bars.
>>19160863
It's too fuggen big
>>19163118
This.
For being literally nothing, there's an uncanny Lovecraftian quality to it.
People are afraid of space because nature abhors a vacuum.
it would take us 300,000 years to travel to the next star, why the fuck is the galaxy so widely spaced out that its effectively a sign staying "STAY THE FUCK AWAY"
Spooky Space pics incoming
bumping with some Space Ghosts
>>19161692
Fucking Fermi Paradox makes me think this is the exact reason why we don't "hear" anything from alien civilizations.
They're all scared shitless of whatever "predator" species there are, staying quiet and hoping to avoid annihilation.
Meanwhile, we're sending messages out to the stars like a teenaged girl uploading revealing pictures to instagram.
But there is one hope for us: WE become the super-predator that everyone fears. WE become the bump in the night, the man who knocks.
The stars would be ours, and all others shall fear us.
>>19163712
An interesting notion to think would be that we are stronger physically than any other alien lifeforms. You could argue it is because of our gravity.
Where is that one picture of a story where humans are like a horrifying space raiding species?
>>19163744
I got you bro
>>19163712
at least earth is not silent. since the first radio transmission we are blaring artificial noise into the universe and we are basically looking for the same. it might will take hundreds of thousands of year, but if anyone is listening then, they will hear us eventually, but chances are we are long gone by then.
>>19162112
different anon but I'm curious too
>>19163712
Fat chance, fancy pants.

Literally Nothing
>>19163083
I think they're fascinating because they're scary. Imagine if we already knew everything about them. Then we'd know how to avoid dangers and how to traverse them easily. It's kinda like god mode in vidya.
>>19164798
this
Its big.. And black
>>19164829
>it's like God mode in vidya
Except you know, we can die. Go back to /v/
