Usually the first animal you think of.
They often have relevance in your life i.e. they have always been around. (Like a teddy bear or a stuffed tiger)
It is something you are drawn to naturally and always seems to follow you around, yet you have never payed much attention to it.
It can be anything, even fish, so pay attention.

What It Means To Be The Lion

In the realm of spirit animals, the lion wins the prize for most relentless fighter in the face of life challenges. The lion spirit animal represents courage, strength in overcoming difficulties.

The presence of this power animal could also mean that something “wild” or difficult to control is happening. As such, lions symbolizes emotions that are difficult to manage, such a anger or fear. >> What's The Lion's Message? Check It Out!

What if your spirit animal is human
>>
Mine is gorilla. It just feels so right and makes such sense. Reflecting on boyhood up to my 30s when I finally discovered. It seemed so right. My animal spirit is with me in meditation
>>
My spirit animal is creampie Cathy
>>
Typically, your spirit animal is one that shows itself in your life at times when guidance is needed. Not always physically, sometimes it shows up in dreams or symbolically.
>>
Mine just came to me on an intense acid trip. I ended up just talking to this raven while it cawed back. I understood none of it, and still don't when it shows up every now and then, but I've noticed it always pops up to berate me when I haven't progressed for a while in my personal studies.

i asked for a sign during third eye meditation, a deer snapped me out of it trying to get into the room i was in

started having deer dreams after that, and they've come up to me frequently

i was actually saying if they were my spirit animal that it was kind of lame not that long ago, and the next day (and every day since) a deer walked up to me in my garden and nuzzled my hand then spent some time with me

been visiting every day since and chases every other deer away from me
>>
>>19154533
the first step is being native american. if you haven't completed that step, sorry, but you don't get a spirit animal
>>
>>19158861
You are wrong ^.^
>>
>>19158883
nope i'm definitely right. you don't just get to decide that you have a spirit animal. it's something that you get from being raised in the culture, or having it explicitly shared with you in a respectful way. you don't get it by asking a bunch of assholes on an image board for one

Actually, as long as they distance themselves from saying things like "I have a spirit animal just like the American Indian tribes" then it's perfectly fine. NDNs are only against it if so-and-so is going about trying to impersonate their actual beliefs as a matter of cultural fraud and dishonesty.

Not that I particularly believe that a 'spirit animal' is assigned anyway, spirit is a misnomer.
>>
>>19158914
It's just another word as Christians would say, "guardian angel". Oddly enough there's quite a few similarities between
>>
Meditate, when in trance like state ask your spirit animal to show itself.

Generally we have one animal spirit, but other can get into your life for a moment to help you. Also it can be anything, from insect to mammal. Don't feel down if it's a snail or something like that.

i felt down over my spirit animal, but now that i'm developing a relationship with a wild deer right after bitching about it on here i'm starting to see deer in a different light
>>
>>19159106

+ it's actually been strange, it listens when i tell it to "wait" and such and did immediately like i've known it forever and it's my "dog" or something

Why did you feel down ? Because it's not as cool as lupus or leo ? Search and find why, you might get a surprise on the why.

Continue to work with the deer, not only it's material form. Learn and meditate about the deer, what is it, what it represent and all. But remember, it's not a thing, a possession, treat it with respect, like you would treat yourself (or want to be treated).

Keep up the good work !

>>

Thats adorable!
>>
>>19159148

definitely the not as cool thing as it could have been thing and also i guess because i just didn't understand what it's supposed to mean

not sure how it relates to me anyway

that being said i've been having dreams, real experiences, and meditation experiences where deer have figured in very heavily

moreso in dreams than anything, this recent deer just showed up after i said something and we seem to be reaching an understanding

i'm learning about them anyway

i know it's not a "thing" really, and i do treat it with respect, but respect and thoughts don't always work together

snakes seem to be a thing in my life too, but to a slightly lesser extent than deer

the day the deer showed up i actually found a species of snake i'd never seen before in my garden right before

>>19159875

yeah, it's pretty cute

just weird since i never seen it before i said something, and now it acts like it's home

wild animals generally like me though, i'm on alright terms with a raccoon and i've had a chipmunk and bird friends too

it's mostly just that my garden always draws in a lot of animals that choose to live in it or frequent it and then get close to me (the plants do better if you get animals in there anyway, they kill pests and such), but deer are the only ones i've dreamt about/gotten a meditation sign from

oddly enough when people have had dreams about me they mention snakes

i've never had a snake dream personally or gotten quite the same sign as with the deer, but they've also been significant in events that have followed dreams and such

anyway i find them all the time in my garden and see them often while on walks, which is unusual because they're all endangered in the area and the ones who aren't are typically sick (the ones in my garden are always extremely healthy)

>>19158914
Being part of a bloodline or a culture has nothing to do with whether or not a spirit of nature wishes to reach out to you and take you under its wing. You don't 'get' an animal spirit, either, it's always been there; you just have to listen to it.
>>
>>19161663 here

I am shaman

you can have more than one, and not necessarily permanent

some people when they say spirit animal they mean like that is their animal they identify with, spirit animal can also mean an animal that is guiding you through a time in your life

I am bear shaman but my spirit animal first was moth

moth does not present itself so strongly now but when I see him I am still reminded

now I am contacted by the fly... I hope not for much longer because he's nasty

>>
>>19163745
It came from native American mythology and culture. It is a native thing.

Just because you whites have essentially no culture, that doesn't mean you can just take any practice you want. Haven't you taken enough?
>>
my spirit animal I found out was an mars alien after weeks of focused meditation visiting the bathhouses in sweden
>>
Dreams.
>>
>>19163753
and you are assuming you are talking to an white american then? nice. In my "essentially non-culture" we've had shamans the very same as some native american cultures. Animal spirits, deities, ancestor ghosts and stuff like that were all part of my regions belief systems, way before christianity washed over europe and pretty much ravaged the legacy of ancestral storytelling and such. A shame really, since I find it a lot more interesting, and more related to my own "unexplainable expiriences".

Saying spirit animals is a native american culture thing is as ignorant, as saying believing in a god is christian only thing. And thinking native americans being the only ones forming their beliefs from nature is just as ignorant.

it will be obvious.. now that you have your eyes open and are feeling some kind of shamanic or spiritual calling, if a spirit animal seeks you it will be obvious because it will stand out to you in such a way that catches your attention

After that you might notice the animal more often. Some would call it plain confirmation bias. But for me as a young shaman I have been contacted by some animals and taken some lesson from them, and then when I see the animal again it is simply a reminder. Like I mentioned for the moth, it came to me when I was in a very uncertain time in my life and it reminded me that life was giving me exactly what I need when I need it. I was in a very scary time and I was seeing them often and every time I saw them I was reminded not to be scared
