The only aspect of the American Sasquatch that keeps me interested is the howling and vocalizations. Field work costs time and money. Sasquatch research isn't financed by public institutions. Jevning's books are very reasonably priced. Most are dirt cheap.

All of these things. Eyewitnesses who see them running are usually shocked at how fast they move. They are expert hunters (it's all they do all day) and understand camouflage and stealth very well. People who manage to shoot them report that they run away at top speed while they're still alive, and if they die instantly others nearby will charge out of cover and take away the body. Most researchers now think they make structures out of trees and fallen limbs, but when you look at these they're not easy to distinguish from natural deadfall.

On some level they understand most of us don't think they exist, and they want to deny us evidence to the contrary. They know we'll hunt in large groups if we have a reason, and that's dangerous.
