It comes down to seeing the truth of a person, one they refuse to see themselves. Most people are acting 24/7. They care more about what the world thinks of them than what they think and feel for themselves. Or they pretend they do. When you 'catch' such a person, you'll confuse them. They simply refuse to believe that someone can see through their act. This hopeless act of refusal costs so much mental energy that they go into a highly impressionable state. Almost everything you say to them, do with them, even think about them will slip over their conscious radar and directly enter into their subconscious.

If you use this trick with ill intent, be warned: the subconscious of people still watches over them. People literally turn into devils, jesters and fighting machines if you use this knowledge to try and harm people. If you use it to help people, you'll talk with angels who make sure both parties learn something about themselves from the encounter.

Then make it so they depend on you and cannot go for help from any other.
The only way to get rid of mind control is by not fighting but speaking the truth and loving other people.
It is the natural anti-virus for the programming by others.
