All we have in NJ that I know of is the Jersey Devil, which is unfortunately a massive hoax. All credible sightings point to it just being a great-horned owl.

Would be cool if there was a satanic monster prowling the Pine Barrons though. I'd go check it out.

On a side note, my town is home to the infamous Red Mill, the "most haunted building in Jersey". All the ghosts are just boring former workers though. They never do anything interesting.

We also had a Lizard Man in Lafayette back in the 70s. Apparently it never bothered anyone. He'd just come out of the swamp and forage in the nearby brush, like an animal. Judging from the behavior, it doesn't sound intelligent like an alien Reptilian. Probably an experiment gone wrong or something. And since it hasn't been seein in over 30 years it probably died.

In the original legend, it's a spawn of Satan born from a pagan woman in the 1730s. Back then, it was described as a fire-breathing, bat-winged bipedal horse-thing with glowing red eyes.

Modern sightings are just exaggerated descriptions of great horned owls.

>>19132361
Pic related. Lots of theorists think it's a Gray but there are plenty of animals it could have been. Most aren't native to the area though.

how come every cryptid is explined with owls?
mothman = owl
jersey devil = owl
flatwoods monster = owl
nessie = water owl
big foot = 50 owls in top of each other

are owls the weather ballons of cryptid investigators? leave owls alone!

Because owls are big screaming winged creatures that prowl the night with claws, glowing eyes, and sometimes even "horns". Mothman and the modern Jersey Devil have these exact features.

When someone's out in the woods at night, drunk, stoned, or just really on edge, and that person sees pic related careening through the treeline, you think he's gonna say "oh that's just a bird, whatever"? Nope.

Growing up in rural Alberta, I heard a lot of stories about what locals called the "hyena dog", a large, feral, dog-like creature that made sounds like a hyena. I never saw it myself, but several people I know, including my grandfather, claim to have. I always assumed it was just a local thing, but recently I read about the shunka warakin, and I think it must be what they were seeing. The shunka warakin has been described as dog-like or hyena-like, and has been sighted throughout a large part of North America, including Alberta.

Pic related is apparently the stuffed body of one shot on a ranch in Montana.

They could be escaped hyenas from a private farm. Of, if you wanna get ambitious, remnants of the American Hyena. But those went extinct hundreds of thousand of years ago and shouldn't have been able to survive for so long under the scientific radar.

>>19133445
Hence why I've been saying "modern Jersey Devil". People don't describe it as horse-like anymore. Nowadays it's got wings and talons and horns and big glowing eyes.

Not really sure if it qualities as cryptid, but here in Omaha we have a really haunted park called Hummel park, a ridiculous amount of rumors ranging from 50s lynchings, to Satanic cults, to albino hordes. Either way it is definitely spooky and I've heard a lot of stories about a banshee in the woods there, but I don't know how a Scottish ghost got in Nebraska
>>
>>19131915
Michigan here. We have the wendigo, a malevolent spirit which attaches itself to cannibals and twists them hideously, starving them to death but still keeping them 'alive' in a frenzy of hatred and hunger. They eat people, and sometimes they disguise themselves as people, though being mad they aren't very good at it.

From what I know, wendigo sightings are pretty rare in the modern era, probably because people don't eat each other often, especially in the modern era where winter starvation is less of a problem.

Bro, I live less than a mile away from the Red Mill, the "most haunted building in the state". I've been to gas station bathrooms with more paranormal activity.

If there are actually ghosts in the Mill, they're all just workers from the 19th century who like to tap on shoulders and ring the old bells once in a while.

There's apparently one ghost that plays the banjo and can be heard from across the river. But I've never heard it.

I tell you what, some shit can't be explained with intoxications.
I've tried a fuckton of different psychedelics, those more or less known, not to mention the usual stuff like alcohol or weed and I can tell you, even when I can see reality becoming a synesthetic storm, I've never ever seen actual beings or anything out of the ordinary psychedelia. I don't hear that from other "psychonauts" either, any encounters tend to happen when you're so high you can't even move. Something like "existing" becomes meaningless at that point.
Dissociatives are the only things that made me see people and stuff, but that's because I was totally disconnected from my body and somewhere far, far away in my mind.

There's also the White Thing but it's sort of faded into obscurity even in crypto circles. Given the speed and high pitched cry ascribed to it in older tales I've always assumed it was an albino mountain lion and not a hominid as described in later sightings. (there shouldn't be ANY mountain lions in AL.) Kinda seems like the Jersey Devil all over again, what with more recent stories watering it down and homogenizing the creature into a Bigfoot cousin.

This is 200% not creepy but when I was growing up on Norfolk Island this old local came in to my work and showed me pictures of tiny orange crabs that he said lived in fresh water pools on Mt Bates, one of two mountains there. florida here

so several years ago, i was in the woods behind my house. our neighborhood backed up to a strip of woods, and then a lake. my dad thought it was funny to make coyote noises and scare me out, and it did. we laughed afterwards. but from our yard, i saw a large, pale-blue mass move through the trees quietly. it resembled the back of a large animal, was hair/featherless, and was probably about 10-14 feet tall. naturally i got freaked out, but quickly forgot about it.

my friend also claimed to see the same thing from my yard, same size, and in the same trees, roughly in 2011. past that year, the neighbors started clearing brush to get a better view/access of the lake, and we never saw the beast. the trees where it hid were gone.

recently i checked about reptile cryptids in florida, and didnt get much except a 1901 article about a hunter slaying a carnivorous catfish-sauropod-thing in the everglades. it was a similar size, but i can't tell if they were the same color. we only saw the back, so there's no telling what the rest looked like. their animal was a carnivore, and after 2011 a huge explosion of deer has plagued the neighborhood. they're practically as common as squirrels. if our mystery dinosaur is real, it probably ate the deer and died. however, i can't remember seeing scat, tracks, or (large) game trails back then. a few toppled trees, and that's it.

also my grandparents saw ufos im new hampshire and there's a whole conspiracy with the air force base or something. jets chased the ayylmaos away from looking into their cabin, and air force personnel came door to door and asked about it, and tried to hush it up.

thats about it tho

where I live there's this huge ass transparent and luminescent worm/snake creature that lives on rivers and comes out once a year to suck blood from animals or people that come near the river, then when it's completly red full of blood it goes to sleep for another year. I'm almost sure it's just a story to keep kids away from the river but many people (my parents and brother too) has claimed to see lights moving under the water many times specially on summer, probably I'm gonna go camping this year and try to film some of the lights if they are real

We have this thing called the Michigan dog man, and it's basically a werewolf but it never transforms, so it's always in wolf form. And I can remember vividly when I was 11 being out on a lake with my friend and his family and his dad told us the story and it scared me out of my mind. That night me and my friend went into the woods to find the dog man and we heard howling (probably just wolves because northern Michigan) and we ran for it. As we were running, we both heard rushing as if something was running next to us, followed by the strangest sound ever, like a gurgle also mixed with a low howl. We never saw what made the sound but I like to believe it was really the dog man

Manipogo is probably just an old Indian myth that started from occasional sightings of massive sturgeon in the rivers.

Some of them are truly enormous, 12 feet long and over 1000 lbs. Very rare, and they wouldn't have been able to catch them back then, only get once a generation sightings while canoeing. Hence the ancient mythical status.

I guess ancient finns hunted all the cryptids to extinction, since we really have nothing like that here in Finland.

Sure we have old tales of trolls and gnomes and woodland spirits and the like, but nothing that I've heard of in the modern times.

Only thing that comes to mind that's even remotely close is poltergeist-like activity at an old stoneworks in the town I live in back in the 50s.

Activity was supposedly cleared by a psychic/medium who trapped the spirits responsible and "trained" them to leave the world of the living.

Another South Texas fag here. Local Mexican legend called LA Chuza (I'm probably misspelling it) is described as a monstrous bird woman. Sometimes she is described as a gigantic barn owl or sometimes as a half bird half woman thing sorta like an ugly harpy. She is a bruja or witch and legend goes if you are out walking at night and hear whistling that you shouldn't whistle back or she will attack and kill you. I've also heard stories of La Chuza stalking or chasing people back to their house and then walking around on the roof all night waiting for them. In the morning these people usually find foul smelling piss all over the front door and porch.

You can hallucinate even without drugs, it depends on your state of mind. I know I've "seen" ghosts as a child when I was alone and in a scared state of mind. The darkness also helps stimulate your imagination. I knew it weren't real because I kept searching for clues and eventually found the source of my imagination (usually a shadow or something), but someone in a panicked state of mind might not have the wits to double-check what he thinks he's seeing.

not real cryptids..
but here (some parts in south tyrol, italy) we dress up as the ghosts of the poor people who died during winter time and go from house to house and sing some songs and bless the houses during christmas time. There are also some real ones between the dressed up ones. We have to talk with distorted voices, so that we don't recognise ourselves and don't immediately know who isn't one of us.

Here in the UK we're more in the realm of traditional folklore, ghostly black dogs are a big one, and lots of ghosts.

A modern cryptid is the beast of Bodmin Moor, supposed to be a big cat that kills local livestock. No evidence for it though, so a few people think it's an apparition. It's mostly a meme for tourists.

There's a similar one in the next county called the beast of Exmoor, which has a good beer named after it.

SLC, Utah reporting in.

I've been on multiple bear-lake monster hunting trips, still have came up dry for 5 years. That's not the only mystery behind that lake though, it's extremely deep and there's fish in it that you can only find in the Asian pacific. It's rumored to be so deep that it engulfs trenches deep below the earth, and there's passageways from the Asian pacific.

My man! I'm from Sandy, and I've never even heard of the Bear Lake Monster until a few years ago. My mom who great up in Utah had never heard of it, nor had my parents, or anyone I asked about. It's definitely a beautiful lake though.

On another note, my grandfather and great uncle were really into bigfoot and I have a large briefcase filled with old newsletters/books/newspaper clippings/maps/height charts and notes about their adventures trying to track him down. Pretty cool stuff. They found some evidence of something, but my great uncle passed away about a week before they could go back and actually physically record it.

I was always told tales of this thing growing up. It was local as in just a 20 minutes drive.

The Mulberry Black Thing. This is from a website that discusses cryptids

She said "the Mulberry black thing only comes out at night. You don't want to be out after dark. Some people say it's headless! It will chase after you!"

Some say it's controlled by a witch with the last name of Poor. From what I can tell it's a shape shifter. It's been seen in the form of a panther. Even though fish and wildlife say there are no Panthers in the area. Others have said it's taking the form of a headless man. While still other accounts say it's a large hairy beast, a demon of sorts, a monster!

Many had told stories about how it will land on your car hood and stall your car out. They say your car won't start back until it gets off of it.

Below are some of the direct quotes from people who have came into contact with the beast:

"I had heard these stories after I moved to Williamsburg, I must say that I did not believe them and truly thought they were camp fire stories but than one night on 92 East, I firmly became a believer when this creature stepped from behind a tree an stood in the middle of the road. My passenger and I were so frightened we came to a screeching halt only to have this thing pound on the hood of our truck as we put it in reverse and went the long way home. He was black maybe with coal dust, half clothed in what appeared to be burlap feed sacks, his stare and groans put goosebumps and fear throughout my body."

Another Texan. We have the same thing in North Texas. I had a coworker swear up and down that she and her fiancee saw la lechuza in their back yard. She said she heard the loudest wing beats right after. She's hoping it was just like a vulture or something but she said it was way too big for that. Plus her fiancee saw it directly and said it looked nothing like a vulture.

I live 10 minutes from the site of the pope lick monster
It's at some trestles on Taylorsville Road
Here's the basic story:
It's the early 20th century and the circus is coming to town. The most popular attraction in the circus is a member of the freak show -- a half man half goat creature.
Somewhere near the trestles, as the circus train was pulling into town, there was a terrible wreck and the goatman escaped.
To this day, he wanders around the tracks there at Pope Lick.
Some versions of the story say he lures people onto the tracks by imitating the voice of a lost loved one. Once you're up on the trestles, a train appears out of nowhere and you are forced to get hit or jump off.
Either way, the Pope Lick Monster feeds on your corpse.

I've got a quick story on the Min Min Lights.
>2013, got my driver's license finally
>have a keen interest in aircraft and aviation, so I decide to drive out to Longreach and Winton (where the airline Qantas was born).
>Get out to Winton, middle of summer so it's easily 40+ degrees
>Remember reading about the Min Min Lights when I was younger, and find out that Boulia (Min Min Light hotspot) was only 2 hours away.
>fuckyeah.jpg
>Get into my car at about 10PM and drive out along the highway into the desert, determined to see a Min Min Light
>I wasn't planning on going to Boulia, as the roads are dangerous at night, it's a supreme spookfest, and there's heaps of abo legends of voices that call out to you and kill you or some shit.
>Not taking my chances, so stop about 40 minutes into my drive.
>Pull over, turn my car off and wait a while.
>After about 20 minutes, I see an orange light on the horizon
>Looks like a car, so I shrug it off (heaps of miners and other engineering workers drive around at night in this part of QLD)
>Notice that the road doesn't go anywhere near that direction, as if you look at a map, there'll be literally be hundreds of kilometres between each major road, so it's basically impossible for a car to be that far off-road
>Light stops, rises slightly above the horizon, then comes closer.
>Gets to the point where a tree 400 metres away from me gets illuminated like there's a campfire undermeath it
>Almost shitting myself at this point, so I turn my car on and acheive lightspeed to fuck off out of there.
>Look in my rear view and see it has the road beneath it covered in an orange glow, then it just vanishes in thin air
>Spend the next 40 minutes back to Winton dreading for my anus' safety.
Fuck the Outback

>go to a friends house
>people all around their neighborhood have a cross, a candle or a statue of a saint
>ask friend the meaning of it
>say that many people around it have seen "el hombre pajaro"(the Birdman) peeking around their windows at night and in the corners of the street
>the appearance of it usually means that a witch is doing rituals nearby
>visit my mother later that week and tell her about my friend
>"Oh that reminds me a few months ago I saw it standing on the top of the church (She lives very very close to a church) at night"
This was in Mty, Mexico and the Birdman is kind of our urban myths, but the only details I know are that it is a black bird the size of a man and its presence means there is a witch nearby.
