I was wondering the same. After a long break, I came back to 4chan, and everyone was pretending to be a Christian. Like, as if a fucking Christian would BE on /b/. How god damn stupid do you roleplayers think I am?

I think it's mostly that it's not a fad anymore. I used to come on 4chan from 2007-2011 and then didn't come back until 2016. Last time I was on here it was the BIG thing.

What amuses me are the atheists who try to say that atheism is not only *not* doom and gloom, it's actually freedom and glory and YOLO MOTHERFUCKERS! For starters, most don't say an afterlife would suck. They say the Abrahamic ones would, where it's basically worshiping god all the time. Given the Abrahamic god, worshiping someone that insane isn't a fun prospect.

Second, they don't say it devalues life. They say that it makes THEISTS devalue life. Why bother fixing shit on earth when you think it is all going to end one day by the unalterable will of a god/a literal paradise for you is waiting? There isn't really one. Yeah, you can say good works help you get to heaven, but then you're just begrudgingly helping people to get your reward. Not all religious people are like that, but it is the mindset it fosters.

In many ways an atheism that abides by wisdom and works to figure out the truth and facts and advances humanity towards becoming as the gods is better than anything espoused by the current religions.

And what exactly are the things I said strawmen? The Abrahamic afterlife is either eternal hell or eternally worshiping god in paradise. Islam goes so far with this idea to say that Allah made man for the express purpose of worshiping him. That first one isn't a strawman, just a fact and how some people respond to that idea.

And the second isn't a strawman either. A holy book says that the world will end because god wills it and/or after you die there is an eternal paradise. What cause is there to care much for this regular, temporary earth with limited pleasures over a literal eternal paradise? You are going to care more about the afterlife (and the belief/method required to get there) than you will for this life. And I even said that not every religious person is that way, but a mindset that places a bigger focus on an eternal paradise/trying to avoid eternal torment is going to regard worldly concerns as a lot less important. So, yes, belief in an afterlife does devalue this life, because it places a more significant importance on what happens when you are dead.
