Yeah, I don't think people realize what an open and desolate state Wyoming is. It's big, land wise, but as far as population density unless you're near a reservation you're basically alone. The biggest city has less than sixty thousand people. That's smaller than most football stadiums.
Somewhat related, years ago, late 90's, Wyoming was doing an Alaska type thing where they were offering jobs and incentives to move out there. Unfortunately, they don't have the natural resources like Alaska does, no oil, no lumber, so the jobs they were offering were garbage. My uncle went out there to be a prison guard and ended up moving back less than five years later, because his nearest neighbor was two miles away, and there were more rattlesnakes than people. I don't doubt for a second this missing guy could be lying in a hole somewhere after he wandered off on a paranoid delusion. Hell, he really could have been being followed, too, even though it was more likely wolves or coyotes stalking him.
