not to seem like an asshole, but i like to think angels were just eldritch-looking abominations that are beyond human perceptions of reality. so like, they might exist, but i highly doubt they would in that form. don't quote me on that, because i don't know jack about this subject. can i disprove you? no, because i think the only evidence of angels lies in the bible...not sure about that though.

Not that guy but I like his theory. What if our god really is a horrible monstrosity from deep space that uses some telepathic or psychokinetic abilities to manifest angels in our image so we adhere to the belief that there is a god/place just like us who loves us and all we have to do is chill and be nice to each other to get there. But in reality it's just a space monster trying to placate us so we'll be an easy lunch.

The description of the cherubim in the bible is pretty horrific.
Ezekiel 1:5-11:
"5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.

6 And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.

7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass.

8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.

9 Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.

10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.

11 Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies."

The exact meaning of "Cherubim" has been lost to time but upon observing a group of abnormal "Chayyot", "living creatures", Ezekiel is surprised by the revelation of them being Cherubim. This means, in the eyes of the Hebrews, their most outstanding characteristic amongst the other orders of angels was that they are alive.
There Seraphim are similar to cherubs, only covered with wing and being on fire. There's also the Ophanim described as four spinning wheels covered in eyes and having six wings.
