We are actually living in the 1700's right now.
When the Julian calendar was traded in for the Gregorian calendar, there was a certain mismatch whereas every 100 years in the Julian perspective had accounted for a missing day in the Gregorian perspective. For some reason the leading clergy had to account for three days when the Gregorian calendar was enacted, so it means that 300 years is missing somewhere in time.

the reason your public transport is so shit is because the government doesn't really want you using it. If you have viable wide reaching public transport it would reduce the need for personal vehicles. which would lead to hundreds of millions of lost revenue in rego and traffic fines and also millions lost in tax on fuel and other consumables for your vehicle. so they only pretend to offer you public transport, while make it seem as undesirable as possible so only those who need to use it will use it
