What are the valid criticisms of Gnosticism?

There's always valid criticism about anything. This is taught in Gnosticism(I'm lying). You should rather be asking is there any valid reason for it. Which I'm interested in

The two visions existed in different gnostics groups in hisory, IIRC what I ve heard about them.

The archon stuff is part of the gnostic cosmology. It is not to be understood literally.

I recommend Proclus - "The Elements of Theology" as supplementary reading.

The gnostic cosmology is modelling the inner world of a human being. The senses, metacognition, reflection, emotions, &c. These objects of the cosmology are identified by archons and such. Gnostic practice teaches (1) to recognize these parts of oneself, (2) to learn how to understand and communicate to these inner parts (3) to master these inner parts (4) to progressively master yourself and integrate and connect each part.

The parts cause harm if left by themselves (bad archons, demiurge, &c). After they are mastered they will submit to you and cause no more harm, unless you let them.
