Hi /x/ so I bought this book at a thrift store for $2. The first part is claims to be a medical text but the information is either horribly outdated or was always fraudulent.
Frontispiece
The spooky part comes later, it gets strange (sorry for the sideways images)
So, when i realized it was a witchy text I researched it and I found a few ads where it was priced over $100. Today I did the same and can't find it at all. There is a digitized version of it online but that is of another edition. There is also a recent reprint edition. Anyway if you have any info or would like to see more I can take some hopefully not potato images of it
contact tarl warwick / styxhexenhammer666 he's an expert on these texts

>>19057724
That's pretty cool, man. At the very least you saved 98$ and got an interesting read out of it.
>>19057724
Since this thing is talking about necromancy, it might have this too. Does the book have anything about invocation/evocation OP?
>>19057703
whos the publisher? and author? im tryna find a copy
>>19057819
Yeah that's his propaganda that he spews, he isn't any more knowledgeable on the occult than the average undergraduate in religious studies. I've bought several of his books and there are copious amounts of errors, despite saying that he cleaned them up. I disagree with him on many of his occult discussions, and he is probably a decent occult 'scholar' but I wouldn't call him an expert.
I'm interested to see more but please try to get the photos right side up. in other words, don't post them straight from your phone. open them in photoshop or paint, make sure they're right side up, copy/paste as new image so it's free of exif data, save to your computer, upload. it's a pain in the ass but as long as the altered orientation is still in the exif data when you upload them, they'll end up sideways when the exif data gets scrubbed by 4chan.

I just Googled "The Silent Friend and Adviser" as listed here >>19057704
Archive.org has an probable false lead listed as "The Silent Friend; A Medical Work, treating on the anatomy and physiology of the organs of generation, and their diseases, with observations on onanism and its baneful results, including mental and sexual incapacity and impotence, and on the venereal and syphilitic maladies, with plain and clear directions for the removal of secondary symptoms, gonorrhea or clap, gleet, stricture, whites, and all diseases of the urinary organs, concluding with general observation on marriage and its impediments, from the evil consequences from early abuse and syphilitic infection, with the means for their removal."
A tedious fucking title. Anyway, it's by R. and L. Perry & Co. and probably has nothing whatsoever to do with OP's book because it has a picture of testicles on the opposite page.
Google offered me another result though, this time with the proper title "The Silent Friend And Medical Adviser: A Complete Guide to Health, Happiness, and Wealth." It's only listed as being from "De Laurence," and I haven't yet found an ebook, but apparently it's available in print somewhere. I'll keep looking, but I hope that helped and gave far more information than necessary if you wish to search for yourself.

>>19059591
Found more information. From Wikipedia:
>L. W. de Laurence (full name Lauron William de Laurence) was an American author and publisher on occult and spiritual topics.
I'm sure OP could help better but there you go. Google Books lists the publishing date as 1924 if that helps you any.
Damn it.
>>19059603
Me again. I found more on L.W. de Laurence, including some books he wrote (and some I already have) in PDF format. Also, apparently he was involved in distribution of John George Hohman's "Pow-Wows/Long Lost Friend," which is cool.
But I can't find a damn PDF of OP's book.
>>19059719
Alright, It's been hours of poring through websites for books, and I give up. I picked up a lot of new shit to clog up my computer, but I haven't found The Silent Friend. At least, not the worthwhile one. Just the one with pictures of dongs.
Hopefully OP can point us in the right direction or be so kind as to waste time out of his life to scan and upload all the pages someplace, because it seems to me he's found a gem, and unless we all get as lucky to find it in a thrift store for $2 it might be a difficult get. Or I just haven't looked hard enough. Or I've been following a fucked up lead.
We really need better photos of those pages.
>>19057703
I found a copy online and instantly bought it. I don't know why but I need to read this book.
>>19060061
And, I'm an idiot.
>>19058957
De Laurence is the publisher. The author appears to be listed as anonymous damn near everywhere I find it.
Previous request for OP's generosity is still in the air, but until then I'm going the fuck to sleep. My quest is a failure.
Hey OP could you do a scan of it? Would download/10
>>19060088
Hey good morning I started the thread then my antidepressants kicked in and I passed out. I will post more pics but a scan will take time. Give me a minute I'm digging through it for some tastey bits.
Test. I'm sorry I'm a phone poster guys.

>>19060090
Oh, hello. Good morning.
Maybe I'll stay up after all. I should probably find some "breakfast" though.
>>19060088
I agree, if you can ever have the time to scan it all, I think a lot of us would be appreciative. But until then, I'm saving every pic I can get.
How big is it? How many pages, I mean.
>>19060100
>>19060101
It is around 300 pages but much of it is quackery and a whole section on marital advice. I may attempt a scan on the occult parts at some point in the near future.
>>19057708
>LIVING CREATURES ROASTED AND BAKED ALIVE
Holy shit.
>>19060108
Well, I don't suppose I'd expect any less than quackery. I hope I catch it when you do.
>>19060108
>>19060112
I know!! That part really freaks me out. Especially since the context of the book is like an innocuous almanac. I will keep bumping the thread throughout the day if you need rest. I love how low key /x/ is :))
>>19060116
>>19060118
Thanks. I was a bit worried about it getting lost earlier, because for a while I was the only one posting, but hopefully I'll be back later.
Yeah, there's some dark shit in some of those old books. Looking forward to reading more though.
I hope I didn't skip you posting the bit about magic rings though, that sounds like fun.
>>19060090
Thanks OP, no rush of course :3
>>19060127
No I'll post the full entry on that; I'm doing it in a haphazard way I've got some things going on and I'm multitasking.
>>19060133
Sweet, thanks.
>>19057703
When I get my copy, I'll scan and upload it somewhere if the OP doesn't by the time I get it. I'm intensely fascinated by this for some reason.

Niiice.
>>19060160
And I just realized I've been fucking up this whole process by posting my own images. I'm going to just shut up and let it roll, and I'll be back later.
>>19060169
No you didn't fuck it up :) taking a short break too have to get some shit done
>>19060173
This. I'm just compelled now to learn more. Thank you.

This mire beat up variation is on etsy for 100.00
>>19060197
See mine is a nice first edition hardcover it's so funny that I got it for two bucks. I honestly think it manifested itself to me or maybe I am extra autistic when looking for used books who knows
>>19060203
If I were you, I might call the bookshop the one from worth point belonged to, they specialize in the occult. Seems they are still open as well.
http://www.mayflowerbookshop.com
Or email if your prefer. Refer to website, I think the number has changed.
>>19060203
Wait so did you out who the author is?
>>19060212
It doesn't say anywhere.
>>19060218
>>19060212
Dr. William Earl
>>19060220
>>19060221
Sauce?
>>19060230
The worth point link I posted states the author. I can't tell if it is a typo or not, it says Dr. William Earle but I can find reference to Earl as well.

>>19060218
Yeah, it took me three fucking hours to figure that out. (Why the hell am I still not asleep?)
>>19060221
>>19060234
This is certainly the first time I've heard that name... though admittedly I'd been looking for Laurence this whole damn time.
>>19060211
Thank you anon I emailed them asking for more information. Unfortunately the book contains a lot of various topics and not too much /x/ related things. The instructions for Magic Rings requires advanced metal working skills. If you guys are interested will post that.
>>19060234
Ah yes, I was looking at this earlier. Missed that detail.
>>19060255
Actually it's this guy https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/L._W._de_Laurence
>>19060261
Where does it say he wrote it? Can't find anything
>>19060267
The link on Etsy said so and it makes the most sense because of the fact it was published under De Laurence's company. The guy was apparently a bit of a charlatan and reposted the work of others but if you look at the Wikipedia page's external links you can find a lot of his stuff on archive.org
>>19057724
this shit fucking spooked me I used to have nightmares of being cooked alive after my mom read me hansel and grettel
>>19057703
K guys, not OP, 1 of the 3/4 of us in this thread. Gone to bed because just finished night shift, hopefully this is here in a few hours. Night all.
>>19060297
Goodnight sweet prince
This is cool. Monitoring this thread.
>>19060108
Anon if you're gonna scan it scan all of it. Old timey occult folks coded shit so there's probably important stuff in the mundane chapters.
>>19059527
Ohhhh, well look at the big brain on Brad!
>>19060307
I'm back. OP here still?
>>19061451
Also back. I don't suppose so. I hope he comes back soon though.
Maybe I can spend some time poring through all the snapshots he's posted.
I really wish I could have found an ebook of it, but maybe I'll have to go looking for a physical copy too.
>>19060261
All I've been able to find is that he's the publisher, actually. I've looked fairly extensively, and it's not listed among his works in pages I've seen featuring his bibliographies.
But hey, at least I know there's a copy in the Library of Congress. I really wish I'd thought to get a library card and go while I was living near DC. Could spend days in there, just reading books.
