Alien abduction stories of today have some similarity to medieval fairytales whisking humans away. I'm honestly not sure if this is due to similar forms or just universal psychological causes, but it's something.

It seems to me like a lot of these weird looking aliens are probably wearing some sort of protective gear (if you really believe aliens are coming to earth). From what we've discovered so far, most other planets are inhospitable to us. If intelligent life does exist on one, it's likely they have evolved to live in a world we could not survive on without some sort of protective gear. Perhaps the aliens that come to earth must wear something similar in order to walk on the surface?

Imagine if a few humans landed on an alien planet in MOPP gear or positive pressure suits. The aliens who encountered us would tell stories about how creepy we looked, big bulky things with weird faces and no visible mouths, etc. Take a look at the picture I attached for an idea of what I mean.

Consider how we investigate uncontacted tribes way out in the amazon or in other isolated locations. We fly by, snap some pictures, and then get the fuck out. I wonder what stories the members of the tribes tell their friends about those visits. If we did contact them, we'd need to wear protective gear or at least sterilized gear, since we all have immunity to a plethora of diseases those people have likely never even experienced.

Mysterious Visitors: The UFO Story, Brinsley Le Poer Trench
Beyond Earth, Ralph and Judy Blum

Trench is squarely in the von Daniken camp of UFO writing, I read that sort of stuff for entertainment only. This book has some factual coverage of encounters, though. The Blum book is alright. It also covers a bunch of encounters, so you might like it.
