I´m from Austria, here we drew it in school calling it the "Skater S" cause we were cool skateboard kids, yo.
I have talked to different people from my town and the region in general when bringing up different nostalgic things we liked to remember.
Everybody told me it was something for them and their peers to identify.

You are implying that the S is meant to cause instability in the collective consciousness, but the instability will bring us (eventually) to a heightened level of awareness.

I imagine a waveform that is our collective consciousness, and that waveform is being acted upon by an outside force. In order to return the waveform to equillibrium the force needs to be removed. But if we stick it out and let the decoherence go to its maximal point.. we will "level up" and reach equillibrium in line with this outside force.

A study was done on the origins of the s. People like artists and designers of similar logos were asked if the symbol a) bore resemblance to OPs pic related and b) what else it could be since a never happened.

Almost every artist was familiar with the S. No one could recall an origin, but almost all of them said the same thing, "I remember it was a symbol we all used to draw in elementary and middle school." The professional artists claimed that this seems to be a natural phenomenon. The symbol is easy enough to draw, its composed of straight lines. A classmate in elementary school who also happened to be a distant cousin (all though we weren't close, almost never spoke) wanted to teach a bunch of us how to draw a "Japanese S". He said that his dad, who had recently been deployed in Japan, taught him. And so began my S drawing.

I had always just assumed that it was for the brand "starter" or some sports team. I think I've seen it embroidered on a hat or something. I never really drew the symbol, I had a friend or two that did around 9th grade or so but I never thought anything of it and have no idea how they came to know it.

I just had a bit of a memory fart, I remember something about "west coast choppers" and the symbol for that being somewhat related and having been shown on television at some point.

i used to draw these all the time when i learned how to. this girl in my class showed me and when i asked her where she learned it she said her friend from a different school. lol all of our stories are like that, everyone found it from someone else etc etc why is it always kids who draw this and not adults?
